Downloading Video from PBS???

Thanks guys. I think there is something wrong with my PC setup. I have rtmpexplorer setup as indicated by 4SL69XLT. The results I get are shown below:



and further down the page where the video should be playing it looks like this



note the video doesn't show up in the second image above. When I start RTMPexplorer it also opens a Command prompt window for rtmpsrv. Not sure if that is correct.

The same kind of thing happens when I tried StreamTransport. I also tried trial versions of a couple of other different progs that are supposed to be able to DL PBS content but the all failed in one way or another.

I'm running FF 9.0.1. as my default browser. I also have IE 9 on my system which I never use. I have Adobe Flash Player on my system, but I can't seem to figure out which version.

Thanks for all the input. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

If I remember correctly Streamtransport and Rtmpexplorer where built around or use Internet Explorer? you need to install flash in Internet Explorer, the video is not appearing in Rtmpexplorer or Streamtransprt because you do not have flash installed.

I've been on the PBS website many times to watch docos, and Internet Download Manager works fine for me. It's in flv format though. Not the best quality format, but I'd say bearable.

Thanks DiamonHead. I think you may be right that it has something to do with Flashplayer. When I try to browse the PBS site with IE 9 I get similar results to those shown in my post #12 above, though I can see the entire page properly when browsing with FF.

However, I installed FlashPlayer for IE, and I still get the same results. I tried disabling ActiveX filtering, but that made no difference. So I think that for some reason FlashPlayer is not working properly in my IE 9 installation.

Any ideas.

I'm begining to think that my problems may be related to my recent upgrade to IE 9, as PBS won't display in it properly. Are you guys using an earlier version of IE, and if so which one.

This is how PBS looks on IE9 for me

You either have something missing, eg Flash or Java? or your Internet Explorer settings or security may be set to a high level and they are preventing the page content from loading?

Install Flash and Java, reset you Internet Explorer options to the default condition and delete all you personal setting (Tools > Internet Options > Advance > Reset) and in the advance tab, make sure that Java (Sun) is selected, apply the changes and restart

Try IDM (Internet Download Manager). You can download almost any streaming video off the internet with this. I visited the PBS to check :

Thanks again DiamondHead. Unfortunately my search for an answer has been somewhat overtaken by events here in Alice's Restaurant. Yesterday evening Windows went tits up and I had to do a clean reinstall.

So I've spent a large part of last night and the whole of this morning working on getting my 'puter back to looking something like it did before everything went phut. Yes - there has been weeping - and yes - there has been much gnashing of teeth. The worst part was trying to get my router to say "Hello" to the internet. Jeeeessssuuussss!!!! Who fucking designs these things. I'd rather a swift kick to the nuts than have to go through that again.

Damage Done??? Well I thought my backup strategy was pretty good . I didn't lose any porn , and I didn't lose any important docs or financial stuff either , but I did lose about 4 years of emails and all the contacts generated in that time . Not a total catastrophe - a lot of that stuff was junk in any event.

On the bright side I now have a very clean installation. I've only installed the software I really want, and I now have an additional 30Gigs free space on my C drive. Shows how much crap software I have accumulated over the years.

Interestingly enough - my IE has been rolled back to version 7.0.6000. Guess what - I can now view PBS with IE with no problems. And I can actually see the PBS page in RTMPexplorer. But I still can't download with RTMPexplorer. There is a message on the video saying I need Flashplayer 9 to view it. Well I have already installed Flashplayer 11 and I can play the vid in Firefox. So that leads me to my next question .

Do you need different versions of Flashplayer for FF and IE? While it seems unlikely to me, I have seen references to "Flashplayer for IE" while Googling.

Yes, there are 2 different versions of flashplayer
1.) For IE
2.) For Chrome, firefox & others
