yeah, i've said the whole PC's a dinosaur. but hangs are only really noticeable IN BROWSERS. any browser.
orbit/uTor/winupdate etc can download a gig or two of stuff faster than ONE TEXT PAGE can load sometimes! seriously, what's with 20 mins to load one page?! (and then alexora QUINTUPLING those numbers with page bloat... ) i'll at least try updating to Edge. but my experience so far is that every browser ends up the same. is there some underlying "engine" / "kernal" / "interface" which could be the problem? i.e. something slowing down browsers, specifically, but not any other app? |

that's why mhtml is a godsend! one file. so far only seeing/working in IE. i wuda thunk FF, chrome, etc would have their own equivs by now. ----- prob #2 gives me "XML error" in the other browsers. is this another "IE-only" format? i've told the webmaster for 3 straight years now, but they never fix it. guess they're all using IE (or maybe Edge) as well? |

the website is not "in" mhtml, the copy SAVED is. at least that's my understanding.
idea being that all that html MESS which other browsers save is WRAPPED UP INTO A NICE BOW as a single file. only way to do that in FF, etc. -- afaik -- is to save the whole mess loosely, then ZIP/RAR/7z it together. no thanks! the xml one, yeah, that's on the webmaster. once s/he hears that it cannot be viewed in FF (let alone chrome and others), he should have snapped into immediate action. i dunno what %age of surfers are using IE (or Edge) these days, but i would think even a rosy estimate might be 20-30%, tops. what business doesn't react to learning that 70-80% of their customers are being stopped outright at the door?! |

i'm still not following. that wiki seems to back me up. it is a format for WRAPPING UP normal HTML pages into a special MHTML file "for archiving".
pretty much EVERY website can be saved such. well, most anyway. every so often i hit a snag, but maybe 99.5%? so it's not (generally) a matter of their underlying code. when i save in FF or chrome, it saves them as a folder full of loose files, plus a head or index file. IE gives u the choice of saving like that or, specially, "as one file". as the wiki points out, very few other browsers can handle them. but there are some pointers about kludges and add-ons there; perhaps i'll play around with those. ----- 1.5%?! so this renegade site is unviewable to 98.5% of their target audience?! even after 3 years of me telling them so???? dopes! |

saving pages all scattershot is a holy mess. 43 things in a folder plus some separate index file which, you pray, stays nearby.
u can't rename anything or they became detached. u can't move anything or they become detached. u can't mail to anyone w/o zipping up first. if containers are such a problem virus-wise, they ought to come up with a replacement. i simply WON'T save pages all piecemeal like that unless as a last resort. when 300 people want to go from london to miami, do they send them over in 300 diff airplanes, or try to wrap up into ONE BIG ONE for the trip? nuff sed! Code:
What target audience? how do you know that stats of visits and hits, if a website is made in line with web design guidelines then it's no problem, if that site is not then fuck em. u *JUST* said that only 1.5% of the pop is using IE. which, so far, seems to be the only way to see their page. so 98.5% cannot access it. what am i getting wrong here? |

I've used Firefox about as often as you and for over 10 years now, maybe close to 15. It started after having popups galore, right here on Planet Suzy, lol. It wasn't funny then, but with no scripts and adblock plus? I had no more popups here. And I see zero ads on Facebook either, lol. My friends get mad when they complain about ads. And I say I see none.
I tell them about Firefox but they never learn. Firefox has always had issues, with both Facebook and the email I use. The one that replaced Hotmail any way, Outlook. That's because they are both constantly changing crap all the time and Firefox takes awhile to catch up and work "fixes" for what they screwed up. Other wise I use either Chrome or Opera, since they both added the VPNs. So hopefully, I m searching in private now. Every time I forget I have Jdownload open and copy and paste a link. And it's from a file download site, that Jdownload won't pop up the page ( on IE of all browsers ) I end up getting something in AdwCleaner, I have to remove. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I NEVER use IE or their new one, Edge or what ever they call it, that I stupidly let install on my computer. Then removed it. Quote:

Yeah, it's called why do ALL the browsers have to have 15, 20 processes open. Even when you have only 1 window or tab open? That's what causes them to be slow, to hang, or what ever else you want to call it. I had this same discussion on here, quite a while back. And the # of processes has gotten worse ( more of them ) then better. Firefox has always been slower, but it's because it's always been the safest as well. At least in my opinion it's safer. How do I know? Almost ZERO trips to My Bleeping Computer, to fix some kind of malware that got on my browser and made it's way into the system. I used to be there, like I was going for an opioid fix. lol.

Hear Hear, I agree, after all the thing's I've lost over the years, for 1 reason or another? It may be a pain in the ass? But I reset my computer back to factory settings once a year, every year. Since I'm a picky azz MFer where it comes to porn. I don't often add much new stuff to my external HDs ( I have 2 now, had to expand and get a new one. Just in case the over 10 year old first one dies for some reason. lol. )
BUT as soon as I have all the updates done on the reset system? Back it up, with both an image disk ( on the external as well ) and rescue DVD. Even though I can set it back, as long as I can get the computer to start. Nothing on the new system drive, takes up less space making those backups. Then I also always have all the newest versions of programs I always put back on the reset computer. On that external HD as well. And I use notepads to save any pages/sites I want to save. A folder full of notepads, lol. Simple. Fast, what one does after nearly 20 years online. Notepads with all my passwords as well as written on paper in a notebook. I'll use a desktop PC until they no longer make them. I'd KILL a laptop or pad in a few weeks. PS, ALWAYS Keep Your HD less then half full. That alone can slow down a system. Never mind not cleaning the system of junk. ( CCleaner ) once a week, unless you're not a MEGA computer user like I am. Quote:
