I would never ever buy an external hard drive.
They have so many problems. Over heating and connections and circuitry I put my hard drives into my computer. But I also have a Welland Speed master Dock Station. Its works great - so easy. I hope your data is all OK on your hard drive.

Could I suggest that you backup all of your files to an external hard drive and store this offsite. |

I far prefer using external hard drives for storing files, and reserve my internal one for the Operating System and applications.
I use very small sized external drives that are USB3, require no separate power supply, and are easily removed and securely stored should the need arise. Should I ever experience a failure in my computer and have to take to a professional for fixing, there will be nothing inside that will tell what my files are.

I use freaking massive amounts of external storage space
Quote:
And it doesn't last very long, today's list: To be fair "F" could be wiped, it's my old Windows 7 installation. "Samsung A" took a tumble, so I removed everthing off it, and it's no longer in use. I download everything to "E" extract and then move to the other drives as needed, some of which are backups. If my PC dies, I can always remove "E", although I suspect it would be time for a new one, this one's almost 6 years old.

I have used a few Icy-BOX enclosures without any hassle, highly recommended.

Assuming the enclosure is the actual problem, it's a matter of personal preference.
For troubleshooting and working with IDE drives, I use an USB adapter: http://newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16812232002 For my storage needs, I use internal drives with a dock: http://newegg.com/Product/Produc...-066-_-Product As for an actual enclosure option, there are numerous options available. Get a self powered (ie: AC adapter) model with cooling fans. |
