 Iron Maiden " The Number of the Beast", is where the band found their voice. Literally. Before they began recording this 1982 classic, they booted singer Paul Di'Anno in favor of Bruce Dickinson. Kicking out the frontman is a risky move for any band, but when fans heard Dickinson's incredible, operatic range, they were sold. This is not a band with a lot of hit songs, but The Number of the Beast's "Run To The Hills" and the title track did actually get some airplay. More importantly, the album doesn't have a single weak moment, from the opening notes of "Invaders" to the end of "Hallowed Be Thy Name." The band only grew in popularity from here, but they never quite reached this level of sheer perfection. In 1982 I was 16 years old and experienced my first concert... Judas Priest on their Screaming For Vengeance tour. Some crappy Brit band called Heaven opened for them.
Judas Priest had a reputation for being the loudest metal band at the time and I can honestly say that not only could I hear the ear piercing decibels, I could also feel every drum hit in my chest and my shirt felt like it was vibrating. |

I wasn't even born in 1982, guys (I was born in January 26th of 1989).
But I got into Metal when I was 8, with NIN & Marilyn Manson , before moving on to Skinny Puppy, FLA and other Metal bands. This one's dedicated to my American friends.
