I hate how inattentive & inconsiderate some people can be. Using a mobile device while driving a car, blocking an entire supermarket aisle with their cart, blatantly overlapping someone else's conversation with their own... that kind of stuff really gets under my skin.

The increased level of hate, Nihilism and Violence that seems to have reared its head nowadays. I'm 50+and even though I hate to say it, there is a pack mentality to a lot of our Young. A friend of mine was half kicked to death a few months before Christmas. He was hospitalised for 3 weeks and now struggles to leave the house. He had 5, 20 somethings in a car and asked them to move their car from a taxi rank. They had immediately jumped out and kicked and stamped on his head until he was unconscious. That's how people get killed.
Am I being an old fart? looking at the World and feeling that its slipping ever closer to madness? |

that's terrible to hear old goat - i hope for your friend's full (at least physical) recovery. yes it's a fuct up mad world, and these younger generations dont respect or value anything - least of all their own lives! so of course they show complete disregard for other human beings. i dont know if it's a post 911 world, meaning the constant feeling of vulnerability, or if it is the self worship selfie i want a million likes state of mind, but these kids who have grown up in the new millennium dont seem to have any empathy or even mercy. that makes them reckless and dangerous, especially to others. having had a few bad incidents of my own (with them), i now approach them with caution and bad intentions. i assume they mean me harm, especially if im trying to tell them some shit they dont want to hear - cuz their useless parents never did - so i size the situation up, calculating the risk. usually i just call the cops, let them deal with these idiots, im safer that way. sadly, it is a terrible way to live. im not even capable of being blissfully naive, having been victimized i walk around like im an american soldier in iraq - danger and death could be around every corner. every passerby could be a deranged nutcase with a chip on his shoulder. every teen whose hands i cant see might be holding on to a weapon... so im safer now, but living in a war zone in my head. granted danger actually only happens less than one percent of the time, but i dont want to be caught unaware when that moment comes. to me - thats the world we are living in.
again, i hope your friend recovers, and also - i hope the bastards who did it get what is coming to them, whether it's the law or some bigger bullies stomping them... that said, be careful out there. take nothing for granted and assume that most confrontations, especially with younger people, will lead to physical violence. so approach and proceed with caution. i keep my hand on a knife in one pocket and a hand on my phone in the other pocket. if i can, im calling the cops, if i cant, im sticking you in the chest, aimed for your heart - bet. edit to add: it should be noted a good amount of my time outside is spent in washington dc, in some occasionally dangerous neighborhoods. hence the extra vigilance...

That pisses me off too Namcot.
We see Halloween merchandise around August/September after the 'Back to School' sales and then before it's even Halloween we have Christmas merchandise. Of course I'm pissed off because Halloween is my favorite holiday and the only one I really celebrate with any kind of enthusiasm. |

When my family makes a big deal about some relative coming out of jail at Christmas dinner (they still belong there) and when I worked and put myself through college they didn't say one single positive things to me.

Faux reality TV. When I was growing up in the UK we had 3 Channels ( yes I am that old ). After 12 midnight there was nothing, literally nothing to watch. You just got a blue screen or a primitive ident card. I think it was the wonderful Bill Hicks who described TV as chewing gum for the eyes. Well we've got a whole lot of chewing gum.
Here is an example of the programing for today on a few channels BBC 1- Countryfile winter diaries ( Best winter Beauty spots on Anglesey) - Homes under the hammer ( Properties about to be auctioned ) - Wanted down under ( looking for properties abroad ) - Caught Red handed ( Chasing criminals about ) - Bargain Hunt ( Trawling antique shops ) - Escape to the Country ( Loads of rich people looking for a second home ) - Money for nothing (Antique restoration show ) - Celebrity Antiques Road trip ( Celebrities trawl antique shops ) That's BBC 1 for Today. One channel and 8 hrs of utter balls. BBC one is nowhere near the worst offender on this front. Channel 5 has 12 hrs of this, at least, every day. Kardashians!!!! WTF? Dysfunctional rich people pretending to deal with life issues. Makes me want to take my brain out and give it a good wash. |

Now that we have countless free to air channels, broadcasting 24/7, the standards have dropped considerably...
