They aren't true remakes like RE 2 and 3, but actual HD ports with HD graphics, just like GTA 3 and San Andreas. I was expecting to play MGS 3 on my PC, natively, but the system requirements are just a laugh. 8 GB GPU for a game that was released almost 20 years ago? Gotta be kidding me.

I wanted to Play Alan wake but it's not on game pass and I think its a bit pricey, had a go on Starfield and I just don't get the hype, I really wanted to like it but it was so boring and linear, and I love Sci-Fi
I was going to play 2042 tonight but servers down again, fuck Battlefield I'm done. |

I'm in the process of beating Resident Evil - Code: Veronica X for the first time after almost 20 years. It is the PS4 release which is not a remaster but a simple emulation of the PS2 game. There is a "remaster" released for the PS3 and XBox 360 in 2011 but PS4 and PS5 are not backward compatible. From what I've seen online, the remastered version has better lighting but the PS4 release is in 1080p and adds a few more trophies. The price for the Full HD upgrade are the somewhat pixelated cutscenes. Other than that, the game is literally dark and you may miss out on quite a few useful items if you're not careful. Playing this after so long reinstates my conviction that is the best game in the entire series. Best story, memorable boss fights, challenging puzzles, best soundtrack, dynamic camera movement, real-time 3D backgrounds. I love the industrial environment in which a lot of technology is involved and the emphasis on the science fiction aspects of RE. The gothic architecture adds nicely to the overall atmosphere. Code: Veronica is also the longest and most difficult game in the series. There is a lot of area to cover which can be confusing and the backtracking may become annoying after a while but none of this made me lose interest in finishing the game.
I have seen some calls for a remake but I don't see how they could make this game any better aside from the improvements in graphics. The RE2 remake is a good game but it felt to me like a dumbed-down version of the original. It just lacks the experience and ambience, not to mention that it is considerably shorter. The only remake that succeeded in outdoing the original was the remake of the first game that was released in 2002 for the Gamecube. Now that was an improvement in all aspects, although I like the original soundtrack more. This being said, I really hope CV remains untouched because it is a timeless masterpiece just the way it is. |

But, being a fan of the original trilogy, it felt like a George Lucas "stripped-down" version of Empire Strikes Back. I certainly missed Chief Irons and Ben's death scenes, in the remake. RE3 was a disaster, in all aspects. Way too short, Nemesis looked and sounded like someone who hasn't take a poop in months, dumb dialogue, crappy scripted events and just lacked that terror you could feel everytime you open a door, knowing that Nemesis was waiting for you in the other room. Not to mention the ugly transformations of Nemesis. At least in the original RE3 game Nemesis looked even scarier and badass without his coat and his tentacles hanging, in his Stage 2 transformation, and in its final form it didn't looked like an ugly oversized squeezed hamburger. Code Veronica, I played that one on a Dreamcast. Amazing game.

No, there were some additional cutscenes and files that gave us a greater understanding of the story. Although it's not the most popular game in the series, it is its gold standard IMO. But I understand why it doesn't have much replay value. It's rather long and there's a lot of backtracking involved. |

Actually RE3 is set at the same time of RE2.
It's basically a tie-in to the events that happen in RE2, and a closure of to the trilogy. Nemesis was shipped at the same time as of Mr X. And while both G-Birkin and Mr X were busy stalking Leon and Claire, Nemesis was pursuing STARS members. In the RE2 DEMO of the remake, you can actually hear Nemesis growl "STARS!", from a distance. That's when Nemesis, in the original RE3 game, enters the RPD station and kills Brad, turning him into a zombie, that you can encounter while playing with Leon on the RE2 game. As far as deaths goes in RE2, I always liked the "ALIEN-style" chestburster scenes from the original RE2 game, than the lame Mr X ones.

Right, RE3 is set like 5 hours or so before RE2. I totally forgot that each character in RE2 had two scenarios of its own. Leon is not stalked by Mr. X in A scenario and I don't remember if he is in B. Claire has to face him in both, as far as I know. In the remake, he appears later in the game if you play with Leon but he seems more prominent with Claire. Either way, I found him more annoying than scary. Same with Nemesis.

I was, about, 8-9 at the time. They both gave me the shits, LOL. Oh, Doom and Quake were also favorites of mine, as well, at the time.

Still playing Cyberpunk 2077! The 'Bloody Ritual' cyberpsycho has been the only quest where I felt uneasy, lol!
^ I'd like to add my two cents to the Resident Evil discussion: I only played a smidge and watched about the same amount of Resident Evil: Code Veronica; I do remember the opening cinematic and remember it being awesome! Original Resident Evil 2 is probably my favorite it felt like a very well rounded game in my honest opinion and the soundtrack is outstanding! I didn't like Original Resident Evil 3 or the Remake of Resident Evil 2 very much being constantly hounded/hunted by Nemesis/Mr. X felt like it took away from the exploration, puzzles, music and atmosphere and it didn't feel like 'horror' just pure 'survival.' It's like horror movies relying on jump scares and gore to get a rise out of the audience. It goes without saying that I didn't even bother with the remake of Resident Evil 3, haha!
