As I was watching the NFL Playoffs (Ravens Vs Titans) a commercial appeared for the upcoming fight ...I was like
"Noooooo ..Crap, Son of a Bitch!" He's like a bad penny that keeps coming back....Arrrghhh! I found this on Devi@nt Art, I must admit this looks cool. I can only hope that Dustin is better prepared for this (Cough..Cough) Epic fight. Ohh! Then there's this shit.....

UFC Fight Night Holloway Vs Kattar
I figure by now most folks have seen this event. Soo first the main fight Max Holloway vs Calvin Kattar I'm not sure I heard the results correctly, Yes Max Holloway won convincingly, but I thought they said the sore was 50 to 42 OMG!! That would mean one or more rounds were scored 10 to 7 and I have never seen that before. Once again Herb Dean should have stopped the fight when Kattar was getting lit up my Max Holloway. I'm telling you at some point someone is going to die because Herb Dean failed to stop the match. Anyhoo.... Joaquin Buckley now understands what it's like to be knocked out my a kick to the Noggin. Joaquin Buckley's knockout the year - 2020 (below)

All in all Holloway vs Kattar was a great way to kick off the 2021 UFC season. Three spectacular KOs in the main card, plus a main event that was as good as it was difficult to watch. Holloway was unbelievable - absolutely terrifying!!!
Quote:
No doubt Kattar was taking one hell of a beating. The problem for Herb Dean was that just as he looked like he might go down Kattar would start punching like a maniac and look like he was back in the game. I think you could also argue that Kattar was defending himself "intelligently". That is - he was covering up and blocking strikes as best he could, and also trying to dodge getting hit. And lastly he never looked completely confused or out of touch with reality. So - even though I wouldn't have argued if Herb had stepped in and stopped it, I can also see why he didn't. On the flip side you could also criticise Kattar's corner men heavily. Why didn't they throw in the towel and save their guy from a brutal beating? Having said that I can't actually remember any corner having thrown the towel in to save their guy. Anyway, I'm glad the UFC is back. During the break since Christmas I watched several old Bellator events. From that limited viewing I have to say I think the UFC is still at the top of the heap by head and shoulders. |

Well - what can I say??? UFC 257 was delicious. Even though I was raised not to take pleasure from seeing someone losing - I have to make an exception for McGregor. Seeing arrogance being humbled never gets old. Anyway, Poirier was outstanding plus he's a class act outside the ring as well. Felt really good for the guy.
Are you talking about McGregor getting KO'd? Personally I didn't think my buddy Herb did all that bad, and I haven't heard anybody complain that it was a late stoppage. As far as UFC KO's go it wasn't too far from the norm imo. Seen similar plenty of times from a lot of different refs. Maybe my deep dislike of McGregor coloured my vision. |

Ewell Vs Gutierrez don't know which commentator said this "His legs are gone, he needs new tires" another commentator laughed but I was ROTFLMAO. I would pay serious $$$$$$ just to have dinner with DC and Joe Rogan
Vieira Vs Hernandez [NOT Aaron Hernandez, from the NFL to jail] I first thought Hernandez was done in the first few minutes, but then he recovered and submitted him. Odds of him submitting Vieira 30 to 1. Very good prelims on ESPN. I love being able to fast forward over the adds like Conner McClucker and his fucking whiskey. Main card: First fight Pitolo Vs Marquez - Wow! what a fight and no feeling out process. Had Pitolo stayed with his ground game he might have had it won. Marques won but I wasn't sure how with that type of so called "Choke hold" it seemed to me more like a reverse neck crank. The tribute to Bruce Buffer was great to see, I didn't know he was with the UFC for 25yrs. On another fight PPV or Fight night I was kind of shocked to hear they keep stats on who wins the match after one of the fighters "fist bumps" with Bruce Buffer and it's actually better luck NOT to "fist bump" with him, and how some fighters are superstitious about it. Usman Vs Burns Usman struggled in the first round but came on later to KO Burns...and yes I think Herb Dean took too long to stop this fight as well. Seems like Herb Dean never gets himself in the right place to see what is happening in the cage. Also I noticed this.....Someone won big with their parlay bet.

Gees it's been quiet in here lately.
I'm just getting around to watch UFC 259 and the title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan, very strange. As I watched it I was like "Don't do it, it's a setup" then "BAM" a knee to the head. I mean to me Aljamain was inviting him (Petr Yan) to do an illegal hit to the head, so he could get the DQ. I myself, boxed in my younger days....many, many moons ago. And I can tell you that in the ring, in the later rounds you do kind of loose some mentality, I mean you don't think so clear as you might otherwise do. A fighter tends to, in the later rounds or if hurt, fight on with just muscle memory. There is no real thought as to, "If he does this then I'm going to do that" it's all reaction from many hours of training. But in this fight it was said that he (Petr Yan) asked his corner if he should hit him and they answered back "Yes - hit him" at the same time the Referee said "He is Down" in affect saying "Do not kick or knee Aljamain in the head" Petr clearly was not thinking right, which is why he asked his corner for help. Although to me the answer was not clear enough, if they simply said "hit him" rather than "punch him in the face". The better move would have been go for a front choke hold, in fact he was sitting pretty perfect for a Guillotine choke attempt. Another point to note is that in the interview (right after the fight) with Joe Rogan he told him that he thought he was behind in the rounds. Now to me and others he seemed to be exaggerating his injury. I mean, sure it happens a lot when you watch Football (NFL - American) when a offense, is driving down the filed running over the defense, and a defensive lineman will suddenly go down, faking in injury stopping the play and giving all his team mates a chance to catch their breath, rest and recuperate. His (Aljamain) thoughtful response in the after fight interview, just doesn't jive with someone who has a concussion, if he was concussed then he should have been more like, "I don't know what just happened, why did the fight end?" When I went, just now to search for an injury update on Aljamain, I saw a lot of folks thinking he faked his injury. I think he was injured but he also exaggerated it too, sensing his chance to get out of a loosing match up.

Haven't posted here in a while. Things got crazy busy for me over the last couple of months and I haven't had time to keep up with the UFC.
Just getting back into it now and finished watching UFC 261. Wow!!! I picked one hell of an event to start watching again. From Early Prelims to main event the night was stacked with "Holy Fuck!!!" moments. "Holy Fuck!!!" of the night went to Chris Wediman breaking his leg in exactly the same way he broke Anderson Silva's leg back in 2013. Ooffff!!! Had to cover my eyes for the replays - once was more than enough! Rose's head kick KO of Zhang Weili was simply spectacular. Have to say I found having the fans in the arena kinda weird after a year of silent fights. Where I'm living were still in strict covid lockdown, so I found the sight of thousands of people all roaring over each other with no masks or social distancing quite peculiar. A bit dangerous imo unless they were all vaccinated. Hope it doesn't end badly. |
