Ha-ha - I missed that Herb Dean comment. Classic - very funny. As far as I know all championship fights are held in the 35ft cage, but some fight nights have the smaller 25ft cage due to venue space limitations. I don't think there is an actual rule set by the various athletic commissions. Quote:
My view on fighters in general is that I respect them all 100%. Much as I hate McGregor - I respect him too. They all work their asses to the bone, endure brutal weight cuts, and put themselves directly in harms way. And the women fighters - dang - every one of them could whip my ass inside out even though I'm 6ft tall and weigh 185lbs!!! Personally, I like seeing new fighters coming on the scene. You never know when you're about to see the birth of a new rising star. And the "good old days" weren't alway that great. Some of the fights in the early days of the UFC were abismal. Some of GSP's fights were boring as hell. I also recently looked at a couple of the early Pride events posted by DangerDoom. Saw a couple of good fights but as many that were atrocious. Having said all that I do use fast forward a lot - but only to skip all the promo junk that the UFC indulges in between the individual fights. I never fast forward through a fight - even if it is boring. Anyway, I for one am really glad they're back to some kind of normality. |

OK!!! Here are my predictions for UFC 250 - let's see just how bad I can screw things up, and how many fighters I can put the jinx on.
Names in Bold will be the winners. Bouts with no Bold I haven't a clue.... Nunes v Spencer Assuncao v Garbrandt Sterling v Sandhagen Magny v Martin Wineland v O'Malley Caceres v Hooper Heinisch v Meerschaert Stamann v Kelleher Byrd v Pitolo Formiga v Perez Menifield v Clark Dunham v Burns |

Well I wanted until today, Wednesday June 10 to make a comment on the PPV UFC 250.
There were some fantastic One Punch (walk away) knockouts. Sean O'Malley
Cody Garbrandt
UFC 250: Nunes vs. Spencer Performance Bonuses Performances of the Night: Cody Garbrandt Performances of the Night: Aljamain Sterling Performances of the Night: Sean O’Malley Performances of the Night: Alex Perez On a side note while I was looking around for the clips of the knockouts I found this.... I had high hopes for Chase Hooper whose last fight was a cracker. Gerald Meerschaert let me down badly. I thought he would do his usual trick of taking a beating before subbing his opponent near the end. Nice to see Herbert Burns making his debut. Subbing Evan Dunham in a tad over 3 &1/2 minutes was pretty spectacular. Anyhow if things didn't work out like you expected it's cause I put the jinx on everyone. Quote:
I was just checking out the UFC events page. They now have eight events listed up until 16th August. Most are listed as TBD. Of interest is that the first event at the infamous "Fight Island" is UFC 251 on 12th July. It turns out "Fight Island" is Abu Dhabi (presumably they have an Island there - or even possibly built one). The most interesting thing about UFC251 is that every fight on the main card is a Title bout. Current main card is listed as follows: Kamaru Usman v Gilbert Burns Alexander Volkanovski v Max Holloway Peter Yan v Jose Aldo Jessica Andrade v Rose Namajunas Amanda Ribas v Paige Vanzant That should be an absolute corker of an event. Currently no fights listed for early prelims or prelims. Finally, one thing that has been really annoying me in recent events is all those fucking annoying twitter posts they insist on poping up on the picture. First of all I hate twitter with a passion - one of the stupidist social media platforms ever. Second who gives a shit what inane comment @whothefuckishe has to make, and I'm not going to take my eyes off the action to find out. Does anyone actually read this rubbish? They're just an annoying distraction that add nothing of value. |

On the subject of UFC 251 - reasonable night of fights but not one I'll look back on with the WOW factor. Main event was pretty much what I expected - pretty boring. As effective as Usman is he doesn't really produce exciting fights. Ref Leon Roberts should have his liscence revoked. Probably the worst late stoppage I've ever seen. An absolute disgrace. Felt really bad for Jose Aldo. Amanda Ribas' armbar on Paige VanZant was a thing of technical beauty. I had to watch it several times stepping through frame by frame to appreciate how it all went down. Still have to watch the prelims. |

When the Hell are they going to do something about Herb Dean?
Maybe...just maybe after he let's someone die in the ring, then perhaps they will do something. I think my signature now is meant for Herb Dean...Just saying.

Agreed - Dean didn't exactly cover himself in glory. Having said that the performance of of Leon Roberts was x10 times worse in the Aldo v Yan fight and nobody seems to be talking about that one.

Any thoughts or predictions for tonight's BIG UFC PPV?
The main Stipe Miocic Vs Daniel Cromier This fight really tooo close to call. But having said that I really like both of these guys, they fight well and are just all around great men. If I were forced to pic one, I'd say DC has a better chance to win this and I would pic him as Champion. And if for no other reason than I know it would piss off Jon Jones to see DC the winner with his hands raised up and smiling and thinking "Fuck you Jon Jones" As for the rest of the card.... I don't particularly care for Sean o'Malley but I'd say he'll win this fight. Sean o'Malley Vs Marlon Vega Junior dos Santos is getting too old and slow to fight and I have to believe he will loos this fight and might actually announce his retirement. Speaking of which in the main fight I believe I heard that Both Stipe and DC have mentioned they might retire after the fight. Not sure about Herbert Burns Vs Daniel Pineda but I'd pic Burns in this battle Jon Dodson Vs Merab Dvalishvili . Dodson was never as good as he claimed and his record reflects that. I pick Merab for the win. Preliminary Card (ESPN/ESPN+) Lightweight: Jim Miller vs. Vinc Pichel Women's Strawweight: Felice Herrig vs. Virna Jandiroba Catchweight (146.5 lb): TJ Brown vs. Daniel Chavez Women's Strawweight: Ashley Yoder vs. Lívia Renata Souza Early Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass) Heavyweight: Chris Daukaus vs. Parker Porter Featherweight: Kai Kamaka III vs. Tony Kelley

As it turns out I think UFC 252 was a bit of a damp squib. At least the main card - haven't watched the Prelims yet. But in a way I was kind of expecting that to some extent. I'm not a big fan of the Heavyweight division - in general I find the fights slow and less exciting than the lower weight divisions. Anyway DC and Stipe beat the crap out of each other but in the end it left me feeling a bit Meh!!! The only fight that made me sit up and take notice was the Burns V Pineda fight. That was quite good. Next card up is Munhoz v Edgar. Not a lot to say about that as there's a whole stack of names I don't really recognise. I recently watched Eddie Bravo's CJJ The Featherweights 2020 from back in March. A great event if you have any interest in BJJ/Grappling. Pretty much all fast and furious with a majority of matches ending in regulation time. |
