One thing I remember was how gigantic San Andreas was. I often got lost in the cities and needed the map to find out where the hell I was going. I did eventually memorize Los Santos. I'll most likely end up buying the Steam version next time it goes on sale and trying it. Probably my favorite gameplay element in San Andreas was the gang wars. I used to spend hours doing gang wars and turning the map green. This is something I wish they would've added to future GTA games. Vice City Stories had the 'empire building' which had gang wars, but it was no where near as much fun as San Andreas. San Andreas had the absolute best R&B soundtrack of any of the GTA games. Bounce FM had the Isley Brothers' 'Between The Sheets', a song that should've been in Vice City since it came out in the 80's. Kool and the Gang's 'Hollywood Swinging' is used in the dance mini games, another fantastic song. The Master Jams channel is really great too, it has James Brown's absolute best song (The Payback!) as well as Lynn Collins' 'Rock Me Again and Again' (I ended up buying the James Brown's Funky Divas album just for that song). I can't think of the name of it, but I know there is another R&B radio station in that game that has the new jack swing type songs from the 90's. It has Bobby Brown, Boys 2 Men and SWV on there. Can never get enough of music in GTA games. They always pick great stuff for ALL genres. For music nerds, you always discover some cool gems on there. Speaking of GTA 5, I really enjoyed the instrumental score and I like to rave about it every chance it's brought up . I believe it was done by Tangerine Dream or at least sounds influenced by them. Reminded me a lot of the instrumental soundtrack to Michael Mann's film Thief; a movie I am sure was inspiration for the game, since one of the heists is a little bit similar to the one in that movie. |

Seeing as I have relocated to Hong Kong for work. I am most playing games on my mobile device. Which is mostly Asphalt 8 and 9. Republique and Street Fighter IV Champ Edition. I also have my PS Vita with me, and have been playing Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gundam Breaker 3 on it when I can.

I may get a Switch in the future. But have been reconsidering it as the Switch does not have a library of titles, which I like. Only Street Fighter and Bayonetta interest me in the Switch. |

I just love the open world concept they came up with SA. The fact that, besides missions, you can get an haircut, a tattoo, go at the gym, eat some food or take your GFs out for a ride, it was just a very nice addition. I played GTA IV a few times, when it first came out, but I just couldn't get into the story at all. I still have it in my games shelf, but I rarely even bother to install it. These days, i'm only playing GTA V, and some Manhunt, too (which, btw, has a great eerie score, along with Brian Cox's hilarious director's commentary for every kill you make.....do more red executions, and it's a guarantee you will be in for some really funny comments from the guy ). If you have never played Manhunt, you should definitely get it It's one of the most brutal game Rockstar has ever made, specially part 2. The killings are just over-the-top, in part 2, that if they ever made a horror flick with such brutal scenes, these days, it wouldn't had even got the MPAA board's approval.....even for a NC-17 rating. It's sick and twisted, definitely. But I like these games for the fact that they're good stress-relievers. Not taking any of them too seriously. It's just entertainment, for me. That's all. And, speaking of horror, I cannot wait for the new DOOM to come out. I saw the trailer, and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Going from San Andreas to GTA IV is so weird just with player movement. While San Andreas had fluid player movement and driving, GTA IV is so clunky. I played that game for a solid 4 months straight and yet still couldn't get used to the driving controls. The driving controls are the biggest issue in the game. It feels like you're trying to maintain a car in real life, rather than one in a video game. None of the other GTA games have this problem. I'll give GTA V huge credit just for fixing the driving controls and car handling. You don't have to worry about the car spinning out of control or flipping just for doing a hard turn on a corner. San Andreas was so big and had so much to do, it left me so disappointed with GTA IV. There is no property, no businesses, no odd job awards (the vigilante missions in the old games gave you 150 armor and the paramedic mission gave you unlimited sprint). There is the "flying rats" that replace hidden packages, but you get no reward for collecting all 200 of them. By the end of the game, you have all this money and nothing to spend it on but guns and clothes. The only thing I remember enjoying in GTA IV was the mission inspired by the movie 'Heat' where you rob the bank and escape through that subway. That's about the only notable thing I can remember from it that was fun. I would love to try Manhunt one day, will have to add that to my Steam wishlist. I usually play a horror game around time for Halloween. |

Crackdown 3 (XB1) Just hooked and put over 30 hours in and got 127 Hidden Orbs and 400 Orbs and almost finished with the story and just missing one part and you can play it how you like and beat the final boss before others bosses and now got one boss left and for me it's leveling all abilities to Level 5 and finding all 250 Hidden Orbs!
Got so many others games to start and it's been nothing but Crackdown 3 when I game and my Switch & PS4 have been super quiet but both have massive to play piles, start vacation on Thursday and going to try to put a huge dent in the backlog! |
