To be honest, I use to never give anime looking games a chance, but I am glad I have broadened my interests. It's kind of like final fantasy (I wouldnt have played FF either at one point) if you yourself were in a final fantasy game. PS1 has a great game library, a ton of it's original games still get sequels, yet most aren't as awesome as the PS1 ones. |

How are you enjoying Persona 5, Efufoo? Yes, I'm a Final Fantasy fan which is why I'm having the urge to go back to the PS1 like you said it has a great game library and a lot of classic RPGs. I also bought all the Final Fantasy anthologies a long time ago and Final Fantasy Tactics never gets old for me. Additionally there's Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon among so many others. |

I like the game still, but this is all very different from games im used to such as final fantasy. I have tactics and never got around to playing it. I have heard tons of people say its one of the best games of all time though. Parasite eve was a fun game although I think I stopped before finishing it, and I unfortunately lost my English copy of legend of dragoons. You have great taste in game though. I would imagine you have played chronotrigger and chrono cross? |

Thank you for your reply Efufoo, A timed mechanic is something I'm not very fond of; I like taking my time with a game and exploring every nook and cranny. Are you familiar with the Agarest War series? Very fun, very erotic, has a soft time limit by completing each Generation in a certain number of days to unlock all the endings (don't quote me on that it's been a while since the last time I played) and it's currently collecting dust, lol! Maybe after I scratch my PS1 itch. I'm glad you like it still are you still taking a break or are you back exploring the palaces? What's your favorite Final Fantasy? Apparently Ogre Tactics (which I also have) is a predecessor to Final Fantasy Tactics and I've only played a sliver of it though I do recognize some amazing similarities! I would agree it's story, gameplay, graphics and music are all top-notch - I would dare to say that it might even be the best Final Fantasy in my honest opinion. As fun as Parasite Eve is it doesn't offer a lot of replay value except clearing the Chrysler Building and playing New Game+ and maxing out your weapons and armor. Do you remember where you were when you stopped? I'm sorry you lost your English copy of The Legend of Dragoon; it's such a fun game also a very good and mature story with great music; although the gameplay can be a bit difficult at times with the combos. Thank you! I've been gaming since the NES (SNES and PS1 are probably my favorite consoles). It's interesting because I know OF Chronotrigger and Chrono Cross; however, I haven't played them. Are they your favorite games? |

I dont remember exactly where I was on parasite eve; it was definitely not too far in though. I really liked final fantasy 7 the most. I was very late to it and bought it off psn and it became one of the best rpgs I had ever played even though it was like 17 years old at that time. I could tell how amazing it would have been had I played it when it was released because the experience was so still so amazing. I played final fantasy 3 android release and liked it as well, but it wasnt quite as good. Which was your favorite Final Fantasy besides tactics? I actually tried to find the psn version of legend of dragoon again after you brought it up and got very lucky and found a english copy and downloaded it off spanish website! I had been uploaded since the last time I had looked for it; so thanks for bringing it up Snes and ps1 are my favorites as well; snes leading the way. I really recommend you try Chronotrigger on snes because the loading times are better and its easier to control on one particular mission to me. I wouldnt say its my favorite game, but its very good and is considered one of the best rpgs of all time by ALOT of gamers. If you have a modded ps3 or something the snes emulator played it perfectly. Is legend of dragoon's combos button oriented like final fantasy 6? I tried to play FF 6 tons of times but the character switching at the beginning throws me off of it. |

I also liked Final Fantasy 7 and aside from Tactics it's one of my favorites next to Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy I. I haven't played Final Fantasy II, III, IV, V, VI and IX. Final Fantasy VIII wasn't a bad Final Fantasy; for me it was the introduction of too many new mechanics that was a little overwhelming. What was your least favorite Final Fantasy? I'm glad that you were able to find The Legend of Dragoon again, such an awesome game. Since I haven't played FFVI I couldn't tell you about the combo buttons, however; in TLoD there's a white box that if you press X or O at the right time you launch into a combo and deal more damage. I suppose it's possible to beat the game without combos since 'Defending' heals you and bosses don't have any rage mode or time limits, I'll have to revisit it at some point and find out. The NES remains a classic with some very fun games: TMNT II Arcade, Dragon Warrior just to name a couple. I will definitely be looking into Chronotrigger and Chrono Cross, thank you for the recommendations! |

Now I am in medical school and have less time to play many games so I have tried finding games I can play a few mins between work/studying and not get too caught up into it to the point that I play more than study. I started Suikoden last night to see how it looked, but I dont know if I'll go back to it anytime soon. Which leads to asking are you familiar with suikoden 1 & 2? |

I recently acquired the original Max Payne as well as Max Payne 2 through the bundle on Steam a few weeks back. They were only a little over 3 dollars for both together.

This is my first time playing these games in a long time and also a first for it being on PC and I have one word: WOW! I originally played them on the PS2 and now I can never go back to using that controller. The games have two control schemes that work simultaneously for left handed and right handed folks. This is a huge 1+ for me cause I'm a lefty and absolutely cannot play with WASD for movement. It's much easier and more comfortable to use the mouse for aiming and shooting in this game than fiddling with analogs to a controller. The first game was pretty difficult and a hallmark back to an era when games didn't hold your hand and walk you through it. I think what makes Max Payne so difficult is that the enemies do as much damage to you as you inflict on them. It's so easy to die just from one shotgun blast at close range. Unlike the console versions, this has quick saves you'll be using this feature a lot. There's certain parts to the original game that are pretty difficult (the fight with Frankie, the Trio, certain areas in the Aesir corp building) The second game still has better gameplay and has really aged well. Despite being from 2003 and obsolete graphics, I think it still looks great today. Max Payne 2 fixed every flaw with the gameplay of the first game. The enemy AI is smarter and they can really do some damage to you on harder difficulties. The bullet time and shoot-dodging also work better, avoiding the few bits of clunky movement from the first game. It's also really unique to be standing somewhere and see the bullets actually fly past your character, almost hitting you. The only draw back to Max Payne 2 is that the game is really short, much shorter in length than the first and isn't near as difficult and challenging as the original game. You can complete it in less than 6 hours. It took me a grand total of 6 hours to finish the first game and that was knowing where everything is at from memory of playing it years ago (the first game is really short too, I just never noticed it). I've only put 2 hours into it so far, but I'm already at the construction site level and almost through with that. When it comes down to it, I feel the first game has superior level design and a much harder difficulty. Just the bare minimum Fugitive difficulty in Max Payne can be quite the challenge. The second game though has better gameplay, improved bullet time and far better enemy AI. The levels aren't as challenging as the first game (some of which are rather bland), but the enemies can do some damage and it's so much fun to just rush into rooms, spray them with bullets and activate shoot dodging bullet time. Still great games, brought back loads of memories! Definitely worth playing if you like old games. |

Also good point about Final Fantasy 8's story being weird I had the same impressions; don't think I got very far in it combined with all the new mechanics Square Soft (now Enix) threw at the players. I understand where you're coming from with Ninja Giaden Sigma; I had the same happen when I played Bravely Second on the 3DS, I was about an hour from beating the game for months when a friend told me so and then I completed it -- for the sake of completing it, haha! If I may ask what area of medicine are you studying? I'm in the same boat or will be soon; as soon as next year I'm looking at going to school for business management, I'd like to have my own business someday or at the very least attain the higher education to apply for management positions. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the Suikoden series; I shall have to give them a look. |
