I heard that during a group job interview and it's something that really pisses me off simply because it's not true. Sometimes the customer is stupid, or entitled, or just wrong.

Obviously I didn't get the job and that didn't piss me off, lol!

You are absolutely right, the customer is only right about 30% of the time.

A phrase I find myself saying in my head at least 2 or 3 times a week at work.

Off topic! You weren't pissed off. The title of the thread is "What Pisses You Off?"

Would you believe that sometimes it's the sales person that's stupid and/or entitled and/or just wrong?

Customers are the only source of revenue for a business and a customer can be wrong some/most/all the time but still be profitable. A sales person who can't accept that, or worse doesn't even know it, will never make any profit for a business.

In the years I ran my own business, only one 'rogue' sales person got past my selection process. It wasn't long before we parted company.

I was dealing in high-end products to high-ranking customers who, it must be said, can be downright nasty. I could do without the nasty ones and let it be known that their custom was no longer required whether it was profitable or not. Sometimes I would let one of my sales staff do it by pointing out the customers "wrongness" in a civilised fashion. Call it a perk of the job for a good sales person.

The vast majority of sales staff wouldn't have a clue if a particular customer was profitable. That's for the owner to know and sales staff should treat every customer as profitable unless they are told otherwise.

Here's another one that many don't agree with - "The customer pays your wages" In fact, in the real world it's 100% true.

But here's a conversation from earlier this evening.

Me: "That item is sold out company wide and is no longer available."

"Customer": "I talked to somebody today, and they said that item would be available again in April."

Me: "That item is sold out company wide and is no longer available."

"Customer": "I'll just order it from your website then."

An hour later, this customer called my boss and complained that the website would not sell him one either.



Guess I'm off topic too. I wasn't pissed off, just sad that some people can be so abysmally stupid.

However, I'm in the conversation; and the great play of life goes on, and I can contribute a verse.
