Has anyone watched any John Danaher videos? (The instructional DVDs, not his youtube videos). If so, what did you think of them? They come at a hefty price tag so I'd like to get some feedback before taking the plunge. Thanks!

I've watched a couple of his freebies on YouTube. I'm not a BJJ practicioner but he seems to be a highly methodical coach. His reputation in the BJJ world is extremely high. Just consider some of his proteges - Gary Tonon and Gordon Ryan are outright assasins, and it looks like young Nicky Ryan will turn out the same.

Whether his coaching abilities will transfer to DVD is another question, which I'm not qualified to answer.

You might be interested in the Joe Rogan/John Danaher podcast. Very interesting.

BJJ casual that hasnt been on a mat in a million years, Danaher has awesome points that should not be ignored - that said, dont ever try to learn something like JJ or any martial art solely from a video, even if its an instructional series - nothing, nothing, will replace mat time/teacher in person time. Books & vids are supplemental materials to help you conceptualize and ingrain what you learn. Unless you're in a podunk down hundreds of miles from anywhere, you should be able to find some place to go roll. (I'd only say it might be worth it if you're rolling, if you're not, dont bother spending the money and seek out enough free shit to satisfy your casual-ness.)

I cant believe Stevens survived that utterly insane liver kick in the second, you could tell how bad it hurt him listening to the replay. Literally one of those ones that shuts your body down for a handful of seconds, and I have no idea how he survived almost being TKO'd there....and not only that, but then coming back and almost putting a TKO on Yair after recovering.
