2001: A Space Odyssey
Tried to watch it several times and couldn't get past the apes at the beginning. Years later I watched it through to the end. Absolutely tedious. Can't understand why it's a scifi classic. I get that it came before most others, hence why it seemed innovative at the time, but I just don't get the appeal of it or Stanley Kubrick films in general. Too long, too boring, too tedious and too overhyped IMHO. |

You didn't understand the symbology and the story.
Also this was made before blue screen special effects, before CGI and digital FX. Everything had to be build and filmed from different angles to achieve spaceships moving in space or the weightlessness in the spaceships or the stars in the universe (were all light bulbs). Even the computer screens were just big TVs with a panel around it. Without 2001 we wouldn't have had Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind and Star Wars and everything that came after. |

fbplanet must not be in the USA to not understand my ESPN joke. That's alright. I don't understand humor in other countries sometimes especially British humor. |

No, I just found it too long and tedious to unravel the story.

They would have come along eventually. Just a lot better than Stanley Kubrick's effort. |

I liked Robin Williams as an actor, but when I went to go see the movie called Bicentennial Man, where he plays a a Robot, I actually got up and left the theatre I disliked it so much. Rest in peace.

- - - 2001 I saw the movie when I was jung, and quite didn't understand it. It is all about the monolit, which is IMHO a representation of the ultimate intelligence and power in the universe. Also not such a big fan of Stanley Kubrick cause he has, in a certain way, the same tendency to make over intelligent movies as Woody Allen did. But Kubrick's movies have not such long and boring conversations. It is a bit more to think about without being pretentious. So it is a fine line for Kubrick to me. - - - I also don't like all movies of Quentin Tarantino. I classify him a bit as a light version of Woody Allen. But for Resevoir Dogs which is a remake and little to none own interpretation was possible. .
