Today I did my big food shopping and have the ingredients for my main meals for the next three months (the weekly shop is for the items I run out of such as soda, water, cereal, seasoning, condiments and sometimes if I'm craving something else)

I also went to Wal-Mart and stocked up my medicine box with a multivitamin, Vitamin D3, Pepto Bismal (in the big bottle), eye drops and a refill of a prescription.

I also purchased clothing and I bought ... checks receipt:

Five pairs of jeans, a packages of boxer shorts, two packages of socks, a flat sheet, a t-shirt for lounging, two lounge pants, a belt and two button down shirts.

I know, pretty boring right? Even the items I bought for my kitten are boring just food and litter.

Hi, so without sounding nasty but why do Americans order so many vitamins and stomach acid treatments, well I think I know the answer because I have a few (12) American mates over Xbox and they all eat vitamins and stock up on acid reflux medicine.

It seems to be a trend in American culture where you don't eat the best food and lots of take outs but then spend a lot to cure the crap that's killing you instead of buying real nice ingredients and cooking at home using a real oven or hob.

Hello and you weren't nasty at all Zammis, you make a legitimate point.

It's not only that Americans eat the worst food, it's that our portion sizes tend to be too large (and this includes me) as though we're still waking up at dawn to tend to the farm. A lot of Americans (also including myself) also don't know how to cook or how to cook a good meal, we live in a "GO! GO! GO! NOW! NOW! NOW!" culture so we were both never taught how to cook and just as you pointed out we live on take out and fast food because we're still going and it's cheap (a lot of us are poor, myself included).

I'm afraid I don't have any answers or solutions. It would require a massive societal shift and every person to make sacrifices which I don't think either would happen anytime soon.

I know life is hectic but one thing you can do is once a week cook up a batch of spag bol and let it cool then freeze it into portions and use that instead of takeout, just microwave it and boil the pasta and voila a decent mean that you know what went into it.

In actual fact I always cook and when I do I treat it as a treat and not a chore and always go for a Mediterranean Diet, which is quick and fooking delicious.

I now want a Greek Salad lol
