Final Score 2018
Nothing fresh is in the movie, is have a lot similarities with movies from the past. But is this wrong? every movie now has his copy or alternate. I saw it all, with little effort you gonna enjoy it. |

I saw Leave No Trace the other day which I would recommend fairly strongly. The basic story of the guy leaving civilization behind and living with his family in the woods has been done before several times, most recently in Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen a couple of years ago and perhaps most famously in The Mosquito Coast with Harrison Ford in 1986, but those movies are more about anti-capitalist, anti-civilization attitudes and the protagonists come off (deliberately) as cranks and malcontents, while in this film Ben Foster is disturbed for other reasons which only become apparent gradually and are never completely explained. And he's just got one teenaged daughter as opposed to a big family, so it's a very different dynamic. Ultimately it's about their relationship and whether or not they're going to be able to stay together, and the ending is pretty powerful as it all builds up to that resolution.
Probably not playing in most cinemas anymore, at least in the USA - I'm lucky enough to have a second-run place that often has things a month or two after they've left the full-price multiplexes. It's quite beautifully shot and certainly benefits from a large screen. |

The Warriors (1979)
Last edited by Namcot; 15th September 2018 at 20:31.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0080120/ version viewed: the Director's Cut Code:
http://movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4270 A film that was so hated by the studio's executives, it was almost axed during filming; panned by the critics after its release; nearly pulled from theatrical exhibition by 100s of theaters owners and operators across America after violence and killings occured at the film's screening in 3 different cities; despite all that, it was a commercial success at the box office and it has since become a cult classic. A few years after its release, even President Ronald Reagan called the film's leading star, Michael Beck, to tell him he has seen it and it's one of his favorite films. This is my fourth viewing of the this film since I first saw it in 1979 and my first viewing of the Director's Cut. I was 14 at the time. My brother who is 2 1/2 years older took me to see another movie. I don't remember what it was but I can remember it was so bad, we walked out. Then he said let's go in here and we snuck into The Warriors, which is Rated R, no one under 17 admitted without a guardian or a parent. My brother is of course not my guardian or my parent but he always looked older. When he was 15 he was already buying Penthouse and Playboy and Hustler magazines at the newstands and convenience stores and no one ever questioned his age. No one from the movie theater staff questioned us on why we were in an R Rated film but I am sure if someone did, my brother would had passed for my guardian or parent. There is something about Deborah Van Valkenburgh as Mercy: you know she's is a bottom of the barrel street girl; you know most likely every guy in her hood had a turn or two or three at her; and throughout the film, she had the she is long overdue for a long hot shower dirty look but somehow, I just found her eerily attractive. One thing I'd always wondered. Each of the 100's gangs in New York sent 9 members to the meeting in the park. So that means in the entire The Warriors gang, there got to be more than 9 members, correct? If there are, don't the rest of the gang that stayed behind at Coney Island listen to the radio and know what is going on? When the remaining 7 members out of the original 9 that went to the meeting made it back to Coney Island, wouldn't the rest of their gang meet up with them? 5/5 |

The Predator (2018)
http://imdb.com/title/tt3829266/ This excruciating slow burn torture stinker takes its place among the ranks of some of "the most anticipated sequels which became some of the worse sequels ever" with plenty of other sequel stinker fails to keep it company. Stinkers like Independence Day: Resurgence, Speed 2: Cruise Control, Another 48 HRS., The Matrix Revolutions, Jaws The Revenge, Terminator Genisys, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Spider-Man 3, Batman & Robin, The Godfather Part III and Robocop 3. The story is confusing and the intention and motive of the new Predator is never fully explained. The acting by every actors and 2 actresses (Olivia Munn, Yvonne Stravoski) sucks. But you really can't blame them 100% for it. They didn't have much of a script to work with. The dialogue was so dumb, I would bet $1 that a retard wrote it. The action sequences were uninteresting and unexciting. Every character was just window dressing put in place for The Predator to slice, dice, decapitate, maim, pull apart in two or three pieces and gored a 1000 ways by a multitude of alien bladed and laser weapons. One of the first ideas for this film was to bring back Arnold but for whatever reasons, the studio decided to shelve it. My only explanation for that is they didn't want to pay whatever salary Arnold commands. Big mistake! You want a movie that brings in big box office returns, you have to pay for the big star!! You got to spend money to make money!! Very strange that this is written by Shane Black, the same acclaimed Hollywood screenwriter who wrote 4 Lethal Weapon films, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Boy Scout; and he also played one of the members of Arnold Schwarzenegger commandos team in Predator 1987. Considering that it's been 8 years since the last entry in the Predator franchise, there is absolutely no excuse for the way this movie turned out. Twentieth Century Fox and their powers that be had plenty of time to put out a quality product and they failed. 2/5 |

I also found Deborah Van Valkenburgh to be very hot indeed (and still do). I also loved the videogame that was released many years later. However. much as I liked this film, there are some legitimate issues about its premise and narrative: can you dig it!!??

re: The Predator: while it's tempting to say "you gotta spend money to make money", take a look at the numbers for the franchise:

Reason: Use CODE/
Code:
http://boxofficemojo.com/franchises/chart/?id=predator.htm And would having Arnold and bumping the budget up to, say, $150-200 million have guaranteed a hit or even break-even? The last Terminator film did make almost triple it's budget, but given that it made most of that outside of North America, and that American films typically get less than 50% of rentals elsewhere and perhaps as low as 25% in China, it probably just broke even if that. DVD/Blu sales are fairly meaningless these days, so where else is a movie going to make money? Are today's 13-year-old boys buying Predator or Terminator video games, comics or action figures? In enough quantity to make a difference? Rebooting, remaking, or continuing old series - particularly without the original lead actor(s) is always dicey - consider Blade Runner 2049 last year - and that actually had the original star. Or the ups and downs of Star Wars. Making the original fans who are your age and mine happy AND attracting teens and 20somethings to an "old" series or character isn't as easy as the continued success of superhero films and James Bond might make it seem to be. Which is why we should all boycott every sequel and ever remake of a film that's less than 40 years old, until Hollywood realizes that there's still a substantial audience out there that actually wants something new. I still see some of this schlock myself - in fact I may go see something dumb and unoriginal today - because I like going to the cinema and I don't have a lot of choices. But maybe I ought to stop being a hypocrite and just stop paying for this crap, and maybe if a decent percentage of the many people who complain about it did, we'd get a little more stuff that's new. I guess it couldn't all cost $200 million and be 80% action but I'll pay that price and I think a few million other adults might too. |

The KGB has been using honeypots for decades to seduce, compromise and blackmail foreign diplomats, intelligence officers, armed service personnel and businessmen and long before Jennifer Lawrence trained to become a honeypot in Red Sparrow, there was this:

The Outsider (2018)

http://imdb.com/title/tt2011311/ I'm such a negative nancy about the vast majority of movies that come out these days. So many shitty unimaginative remakes, or even shittier unimaginative sequels. And I watched this one purely on a whim out of boredom, wanting to see ANYTHING that I hadn't seen already. I was very very pleasantly surprised. This movie is TERRIFIC! It's about a white ex-military guy who ends up in a Japanese prison with a yakuza cell mate. Eventually they become tight, they get out, and on the outside he becomes the only white guy to join the organization. Don't wanna spoil any of it, because it's seriously fucking good. No shit. WATCH THIS ONE. And if you look to torrent this like I did, make sure you get one with a subtitle file or one that has subtitles hardcoded into it. MOST of the dialogue is in Japanese. The first time I watched it, I did so without any subtitles at all. And I STILL loved it, it's THAT good. The next day, I downloaded some subtitles and reconverted the file to an MP4 with hardcoded subtitles so I could stream it to an XboxOne hooked to a TV. I watched it again the next day. I STILL loved it, even after watching it twice in a row, which is something I'd normally NEVER do. This movie instantly joined my list of all-time favorites. 10 out of 10, two thumbs way up, and 5 stars says I. |
