I just watched a skit from Carol Burnett this morning! Lyle is being "interrogated" by Tim Conway and a hand puppet. That is just crazy. He kept breaking character and cracking up.

Now he is back together with his friend Tim Conway who the world lost last May.

Lyle Waggoner fittingly won Carol Burnett Award for Achievement in Television, an honorary Golden Globe Award bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for "outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen" during his career. He was also the first ever centerfold for Playgirl Magazine and Wonder Woman's sidekick in the TV series. He still looked good for his age.

It occurred to me that the Interrogator sketch must have been trending on Youtube and that's why it popped up in the queue. I just watched it because I hadn't seen it in a very long time and it is very funny. I didn't know he had died when I watched this though.

A lot of people forget that he had a hand in furthering Don Henley's pre-Eagles career. As part of The Fifth Edition, he brought Henley's (then) band Shiloh from Texas to L.A., got them signed to a minor label, and produced their first (and only) CD. The CD flopped, and Shiloh broke up.

Not long after, Henley met a budding songwriter, Glenn Frey who had also recently arrived in L.A. The rest (after a stint playing in Linda Ronstadt's backup band) is history.

Rogers had such a distinctive voice... will be greatly missed...

^^^^^My mom took me to see them when I was a kid and I didn't really understand how special those guys were as ambassadors of goodwill, until much later in life thanks to YouTube. RIP "Curly". Btw a similar post on vef already has 31 thanks... just sayin' about the respect thing there.

Alan Merrill, the lead singer and co-writer of the first recorded version of “I Love Rock ‘N Roll” in 1975, died today (March 29), a victim of the Covid-19 virus. Merrill, 69, recorded the song with his band, the Arrows. In 1982, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts scored a #1 single with their version, which remained at the top of the U.S. chart for seven weeks.

Merrill lived in New York City. His current band, the Alan Merrill Extravaganza, were performing concerts in the NYC area as recently as this month.
