I don't know why it took me so long, but remove the extra "u." Your name is the Japanese form of saying Goku. Son Goku. Looking that up in Wikipedia, it's also a 4-tailed ape from Naruto, a short term German rock band, and other stuff. I'm not sure if that's the origin of your username.
Anime isn't centered on kids, there are adult themed ones. One I have watched before was Queen's Blade. I think all the characters were female, as I don't recall one male appearance at all. Those kind of animes don't feel like series telling stories. Rather, softcore porn disguised as "anime." There was vaginal fingering in one episode. |

One of the first anime features I watched, is still one of my favorite: Ghost in the Shell
The other that some friends happened to have was Ninja Scroll. As for a series, I watched the Witchblade series, but I thought the story really fell off towards the end. |

BTW High School Of The Dead is also a very good anime. Those with Netflix should check it out or try to find it online. |

I've always suspected half the reason anime never grows out from it's small niche is because most fans are so damn bad at recommending anime for new people. Ecchi should not even be at the bottom of a list of suggested anime. It's universally crap.
There's a reason Cowboy Bebop is so hyped. It's one of the few series a typical person would be expected to enjoy. The suggestion should fit your target. Did they like 24? Maybe Claymore. Do they like House? Maybe GoSick. Gilmore Girls? K-On! NCIS? Death Note. 30 Rock? Kill Me Baby. But what I see more often than not is something like, "I like Gossip Girl, Community and Supernatural." - Oh, hey, watch Evangelion! It's about a whiny middle school boy who cries a lot inside a giant robot! Oh, and the ending is so bad, it will probably make you angry. Enjoy!
