UpConverting?
Does anyone know of any apps that would help in converting videos to a better quality?

It is impossible.
If you have a video of a certain quality you cannot increase that quality. |

You can use a resize filter to change the resolution but that will not improve the quality of the video. You will just end up with blown up video that is considerably larger in size than the original.

Agree in general terms with the posts above. However, that does not mean you can't improve the "look" of some videos.
You can use filters in video editing software to improve the look by changing contrast, brightness, colour saturation and hue. That is something I do quite frequently with movies from the V&C section, as well as recent vids that have been shot in poor lighting or with poor colour settings. Adjusting sharpness and removing blockiness can also be done to some extent - but usually there's a trade-off. Increasing sharpness will often make the picture a lot more grainy, and removing blockiness will often make the picture look very soft and out of focus. I use Avidemux and VirtualDub which are free progys and sometimes Roxio Videowave which is a paid progry for these kinds of operations. But there is very little you can do to improve the quality in terms of absolute resolution. If the information isn't in the vid there's no way of putting it there. |

The "look" is ok but even the slight adjustment in screen size leaves you with something pixelated and unwatchable.
