Embedding a link in gmail
Does gmail embed links automatically, or is it very simple to do in gmail?
I ask because I have been chatting to someone on a dating site and gave her my email. She did not seem to be very computer literate, but in her second email she embedded a link. I had to search to find out how to embed a link. The embedded link is one of the reasons that I am suspicious that she may be a scammer. |

Unlike say ... Microsoft Outlook (which tries, but isn't 100% successful) gmail doesn't try to interpret your text as you type, decide when you're trying to imbed a link, and then do it for you automatically.
However, there is a fairly self explanatory button (much like the one that's here in chat) that does the job. What's unique about the gmail button, however, is that it makes it trivial to disguise the link ... and by that I mean to make the text that appears something other than the actual url. I don't recall that being quite as easy to do anywhere else. So if that is, indeed, what you're concerned about ... your fear may be unwarranted. --JB |
