What's the best solution for Mountain Lion nowadays? QuickTime is superb way for mp4/mov files, but seems that avi/wmv cannot anymore be played via it, thus rendering QT useless for lots of content.
I don't really want to bother to re-render scenes with iMovie/ScreenFlow but is that the only way to go? |

I also use the old iMove HD [yes – it does work in OS X 10.8] and also MPEG Streamclip (with the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component installed) for conversions. You can also try: VLC Media Player MPlayerX |

Is Handbrake not a solution either?
I'm sure I used to use it on a Mac.

Once upon a time I used to employ Handbrake, but found it to be really slow and cumbersome: once I discovered MPEG Streamclip I never had to look back.

Perian seems to work like a charm, allowing me to open my videos in QT and trim/save them in seconds - just what I was looking for! Thanks a lot!
