Danica Patrick earns pole position for 2013 Daytona 500
Danica Patrick became the first woman to ever earn a pole position in a Nascar Sprint Cup event. Two other pole positions have been achieved by women in Nascar, but both in the Nationwide Series. Those were earned by Patrick last year at Daytona, and Shawna Robinson in 1994 in Atlanta. Prior to Patrick’s pole win, the best qualifying effort by a woman in Sprint Cup had been 9th, by Janet Guthrie in 1977.  |
