The machine was built by Scan 3Xs. You can see the full basic spec here. After talking with their tech guys I changed a few things. For example I went for the 256Gb SSD rather than the 128 that comes as standard. Just felt 128Gb system drive was a bit wimpy. Total cost after I made all my changes was £1,475. It was also the best PC buying experience I've ever had. Their tech guys are very knowledgable, and keen to help. Once the build starts it goes through 11 stages from build start to completion, such as the build itself, loading software, testing and benchmarking, burning in. As they complete each stage they send you an email to let you know how they are getting on, which I think is a nice touch. When the machine arrived it had Windows fully loaded with an Administrator account all set up. So I didn't even have to go through the normal 1/2 hour process of first time Windows startup that you do with machines like Dell. I just switched it on an BAM - 35 seconds later and I was staring in disbelief at my desktop and the tower whirring gently in the background (it is also surprisingly quiet - makes my old Dell sound like an old Huey helicopter ). I'm currently in the process of reorganising all my data. Previously I had all my stuff spread over two 500Mb internal drives and an external drive that had some data but also served as my first backup drive. Now I can consolidate all that on to one 2Tb drive, and it will make my backup strategies a whole lot simpler. Anyway, not exactly the cheapest machine (nor the most expensvie by a long shot), but it is exactly what I wanted and I consider every penny well spent. I compared it to some "high end" machines in PC World at a similar price and it beats the pants off them The only downside was the length of time I had to wait. They had a couple of parts issues which meant it took nearly a month from order to delivery, but good things are always worth waiting for. P.S. I should really give a special word of thanks to Jumper8 who suggested them in the first place. Thanks Jumper if you read this. |
