My original idea was using eSata for the external drive. I did not consider USB as thats only a 20mbs port compared to 120mbs for eSata. I could not imagine running a system drive on USB (it would be so slow).

I realise now that your idea was using USB 2.0 or maybe USB 3.0. Probably better to use Linux if your planning to use a bootable drive via USB as I think this is supported. Windows 7 is just too big and clumsy really for a USB boot device.

Yes...but as I said -he needs to encrypt his *system* partition (TrueCrypt allows for the encryption of the drive it is installed on). That way all any possible future hdd-owner will ever be able to access is parts of the completely encrypted partition = useless to anyone not having the password.

Of course this assumes that he only writes data to the encrypted partition. Any data written to unencrypted partitions will of course be (more or less) recoverable in some form.

One simple measure for reducing your porn-trail:

create a user account with limited privileges for all your porn surfing.

Do NOTHING in your Administrator account.

When you're done with the machine, delete the pornUser account, and be sure to do a wipe to overwrite all sectors.

A separate user account of porn surfing is a very good idea for lots of reasons . . . clean up is just one of them.
