Help finding a quiet keyboard??
My keyboard is starting to fall apart, and I want to buy a new one that is really quiet. Like the ones they make for laptops, where the keys are really low, do they make those for stationary computers as well?
Any recommendations would be appreciated! /RubAdub ps. what is the difference between a mechanical and non-mechanical keyboard? ds.

No idea. Got to the store and start hitting the keys! lol
My mom likes the noisy keyboards. I guess because she grew up in the era of typewriters, and to an extent, so did I. So she goes to a store and picks out the loud keyboards that really click when you tap them! I could care less. |

Well ... if you want a really quiet Keyboard you could try a 'Clean Key Keyboard' (http://cleankeysinc.com/). It's basically a big touchscreen with no keys at all, but costs about 400$ It's designed for medical Professionals who want to clean their Keyboard often and thoroughly.
Another possibility would be a Laser Projected Keyboard, f.e. the 'Virtual Laser Keyboard' (http://virtual-laser-devices.com/) for about 170$. There are a lot of alternative Keyboards in a Notebook-Style, f.e. the Apple Keyboard which i find very quiet. To recommend one, you have to be more specific what you want to do with it - are you a regular Computer-User, a Writer, a Gamer etc. The smartest way would be to follow Sacrosis recommendation - go into a big Electronics Store to get e feeling what is acceptable and affordable. For the different Technologies used in Keyboards - look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_technology |

I like the Logitech 920-000914 - its ultra thin, quiet, and they keys are backlit so you can still see the keys in the dark

The original beige keyboards were built like tanks, the old ADB keyboards were good, but the new USB keyboards are flimsy crap (I've had two that broke, then I got one of these, but they are not quiet). Although -- unlike the lousy keyboard on my old PowerBook -- the keyboard on my MBP seems pretty good. |

Maybe I'll have to drag my lazy ass to the store, was hoping to buy online. I'm mostly gonna be typing, surfing the web, just regular stuff occasional gaming, but that won't be a big priority. Thanks for the answers to the rest of you! I'm leaning towards the Logitech Illuminated keyboard that ccinny suggested right now, I've had other people praising that one as well. /RubAdub

I love Apple keyboards except that they are too damn expensive. The backlit logitech one would be my choice too if I was in the market for a new keyboard. I saw them at the shops the other day and they look really cool. (I guess anything backlit in the dark does!)
