FF Add-on issue - Easy YouTube Video Downloader update warning!
I have the Easy YouTube Video Downloader add-on for Firefox. After updating it to version 5.7, all the toolbar icons for other add-ons I have (NoScript, GreaseMonkey, Yoono, etc.) disappeared. So I uninstalled the add-on immediately, and the icons all came back. So would advise you either uninstall, don't update, or don't download if you don't have it, until the developers get their act together. (They're saying within 24 hours the issues will be resolved....ummm....okay.)
Just took a look on the Mozilla site...I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. The update broke the browsers of several users. Some even rolled back to v 5.5, as that seems to be the last stable version. |

Thanks for the tip. I'm glad I didn't install the update.

DownloadHelper (a firefox add-on) is better for downloading YouTube videos (or any other web-hosted videos for that matter). When you load a video page and click the DH button, all the available download options will appear in a dropdown list. 240p FLV, 360p FLV, 480p FLV, 720p MP4, 1080p MP4, and Medium MP4. (Medium is the closest resolution below 720p but in MP4 format rather than FLV)

1. There is the rare occasion where I want to download a song from YouTube and want just the audio. EYTVD is easier than DH for that purpose. 2. DH used to be able to have variable download size options for YouTube videos, up to and including 1920x1080. An update earlier this year eliminated that option, whereas EYTVD still allows for direct HD video downloading. 3. DH doesn't seem to be as consistently good at detecting YT videos (or for that matter, all embedded video) as it has been in the past. In looking at other options, EYTVD seemed to fit the bill for my needs. But since its unfortunate update, I have turned to the Embedded Objects add-on for the time being. |
