Ubuntu/Canon printers
Have the latest release. Not the beta if there is one. Haven't gone to Ubuntu yet. Probably will when I have time and I've been catching up. But was wondering if anyone has a Canon Pixma MX860 and can find a driver close enough to it that will at least allow it to print. I used to have a MP510, and MP500 driver worked just to print. But Ubuntu 10 doesn't have any MX drivers so haven't had any luck. and Canon's a bitch for Linux drivers. I'm a PC user, been that way since 92. Before that. oh there was Apple IIe and who hasn't gone green. okay depends on how old you are, then an Old Vic 20 which I'm trying to figure out how to get to work again. (on the someday list) and first computer I ever played with was the famous um portable pc which was hardly something you put on your lap and unlike my brother my first game was not on a pinball machine but Battlezone, the real one with the viewport. although I ended up becoming really good at pinball. tilt..... But Ubuntu I've been messing around with since early 2007. Ubuntu 6. First time a Canon wouldn't work on Ubuntu is the MX860. So haven't used it as much since

had various HP printers. before I figured out they were POS printers. Only had three brands
longest one that lasted was a BP200 Canon, then 3-4 HP's all on a return program. 3 different models. Finally figured it'd be better to try one with a non removable printhead. Mistake (a Brother) so went the other way. a removable printhead. $2.50 per cartridge. and a chip resetter. can't lose. except meritline isn't stocking the no chip ones much anymore..

Three printers to Install.
I've told you before, I have to install 3 printers.
I chose the first (Everyday Printer); a Multifunktion Network Printer (Scanner, FAX, Printer, [Copier]). I've no idea how to install. It seems to be a bit more complicated to install periferal components at Linux. Brother MFC 7820 N I found two links: Code:
http://openprinting.org/printer/Brother/Brother-MFC-7820N Code:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html On the Homepage of the manufactor I found the Info: Pre-required Procedure: ia32-libs or lib32stdc++ is required to be installed; I think the programs are doing this emulation. Could give me somebody advices, how to install the printers? BTW: The printer has a static network adress via LAN (choosed by me). It can work with USB as well, but that's not wanted (less flexible). When I grasped the system how to install, I think I can install the other two myself. Please mods change the header of the thread into "Printer/Scanner Installation with Linux" to leave it more general.

haven't really gotten far on getting my printer installed on ubuntu yet. runs everything else. but printers are a bit lacking. no HP I won't go with. Brother had promise once. but the printhead is not removeable. The canon's are. I no longer refill my ink because at meritline $4 per color cart or $12 for all 5 is damn cheap. whats the point thing. finally updated to the latest ubuntu but they changed alot of things so probably go back and reinstall alot on there. heck can't tell what my battery brand is anymore. still runs great though.

It has been incredible easy (Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)) at least.
All 3 were pre-installed, the two driver ia32-libs or lib32stdc++ only had to be activated. Here we go: System -> System Administration -> Printer -> Add Printer Chose the right printer by Manufacturer and Type, Chose the BUS (seriell/parallel/USB) or Network -> ready. If you chose more as one printer, you have to chose one of the printer as Standard too. ----------------------- My Printer is a Multi-Function-Printer (FAX, Scanner, Copy) The scanner was a little more work, because it is in the network too. Actually I've a problem with a pink foreground while scanning. Maybe I can solve it with the color-management, which is actually not installed. Next FAX
