Thankfully, none of the stuff we're downloading is really important, because even showing 200 kb/s speeds, the time needed to get a file is insane. Pull up a link. Est d/l time is 4 hours and change. Start downloading. Go to bed. Get up 6 hours later and the progress meter says time to completion is 1 hr 38 minutes. 3 hours later, it's finally complete.

True, but there are millions of examples where a great many small things all put together add up to a huge amount. Compound interest, seemingly insignificant bank card surcharge fees, incremental price rises, taxation, excise, shrinkflation etc. etc.

Yes you only get ~200kB/s, but try downloading 20 files simultaneously all at ~200kB/s and see how much work you have to put in keeping up with sorting and filing them as they all finish. It's a lot and you can't keep up. It's then you start wishing it would go slower than 200kB/s!

Sorry, not a Mod, but thought I could make a helpful suggestion.

I went to do the same thing on K2S and also thought it was extremely fishy. Changed my mind and plan to get FJ now. But I did see a wise recommendation to use a prepaid or gift credit card rather than a “real” one. I don’t want an ongoing sub, so limited funding on the card is good. Hope that’s some help.

I don't wanna oversell it, as I don't have any real world usage experience of it just yet, but if it really does what the tin says it will do, then this could be the greatest thing ever. Putting it here in the hope that others will try it out and report back if it works.

I can only speak for myself, but I've tried using a prepaid card multiple times without success. After almost a year and a half, I've tried every possible way to purchase a premium subscription without success.

It's been over two months and downloads are still canceling themselves on FB, K2S and Tez.

I'm now convinced that this is a ploy to persuade free users to purchase a premium subscription. I would absolutely do that if I didn't have to go through a shady and overpriced reseller.

I'm not experiencing this problem anymore, however I have noted they've introduced a dramatic slow down of the countdown timer before the link is displayed if the window is not the current focus. It doesn't completely stop like it used to with I think it was FJ who did that once upon a time, but it does slow down considerably. Not such a big deal when the time to wait is only 15sec or at worst 30sec though, so not a deal breaker.

Edit: Filefox is now engaging in the countdown slowdown tactic if the tab is not the current focus of your browser too. This appears to be the newly fashionable way to annoy and discourage. It has a much greater effect on Filefox because their countdowns are typically 3 minutes. If the tab is not the focus, then with the slowdown, that 3 minutes can blow out to 15mins, by which time the connection has timed-out and your download won't start anyway.

To bad it's a processor hog and blocks access to Captcha, the other processor hog <.<
