I'm going through a period of intense depression and complete hopelessness, and my body feels like I'm constantly under a strong flu.
Bones hurt, 0 energy (no matter how well you eat or sleep), immense brain fog, impossibility to concentrate.

Every time I try investigating this issue technically, my blood samples and other tests come up perfect (adding salt to the wound, with the doctor telling me "you're helathier than me!")
There's no physical reason I feel exhausted and weak all the time, and yet I do...
Endlessly frustrating...

Drugs (speaking of the non-fun variety) help a little (I'm not against pharmacology, like some people are), in my case in comacting that sense of hopelessness and waste of life I feel just before sleeping, but the only solution is finding the root cause and addressing it (immensly easier said than done).
I fin SSRI/SNRIs similar to what a good coffee doe before working on something.
It gives you a boost (and it's already a good thing), but doesn't really help you make things you couldn't without it.

I don't feel it's cheesy at all; in fact I feel happy that someone else understands. Mental illness and how it impacts the body still isn't talked enough (which in keeping on topic of the thread is something that pisses me off)

From one Internet stranger to another I hope that you get well soon and I feel your post and it really does suck; both in how the body is sabotaged and just 'shuts down' (so frustrating) and how doctors all too quickly to dismiss our concerns (which I'm very sorry that happened to you).

I agree with you about medication being helpful though I'm probably a little more against it because you are only because as a teenager I was constantly beaten with it as a 'cure-all,' when it doesn't do that. And as you said you've got to get to the root and for me that's trauma therapy which I'm very lucky to have an amazing therapist.

I lost my train of thought so I'm just going to end by wishing you and every Planeteer that struggles with mental illness the best in feeling better.

To piggy back off what Sordi88 and Redmage stated, it is definitely frustrating when you get a good 8 or 9 hours of sleep at night and still wake up tired and unmotivated to get out of bed.

I will say this in defense of SSRI types of medication. They have helped me greatly with my wild mood swings. I used to get incredibly angry and destructive mood swings, but since I've been on meds, I'm a lot more calm. So that's one less thing to be pissed off about.

I learned in the service ... "Go to bed tired ... Wake up tired.". Before I go to bed I go outside, have a smoke and a conversation with the Moon. I walk around my backyard checking out my herb garden. I finish my smoke and say good-nite to the Moon and go back inside. I brush my teeth and go to bed. That works great for me even though sometimes ... I only get 4-hours of sleep.
