Free Vid Cap Programs?
Does anyone know where I can find a good free program for making caps for videos/movies? By caps, I mean the lil file that takes a shot of a video, every 2 minutes or so. Or takes 20 pix, intermittently through out the video. I normally use Image Grabber II. But for some reason, today when I tried to use it on videos I know are AVIs. My folder iss showing them as Video Clips. And the Image Grabber wont make caps of that format.

yeah, I dont know whats wrong. I used it to make caps for a WMV video earlier. That link for Image Grabber goes no where

im not not most tech savvy guy but i have only been using IG2 and MPC for everything and the only videos ig2 won't pick up for me are mp4 then i use MPC

Im not the most tech savvy either, so I dont know why those vids are showing up as Video Clips, when I know they are AVIs.

Sometimes installing a new version of WMP will mess up any codecs in your OS
Simply Un installing IG II and then reinstalling should fix the errors FFDshow is almost a must have as well, since it will let you make almost any preview ( format ) using IG II SorceForge or Freecodecs are a good place to look for the latest FFDshow builds Cheers, BleeP |

I personnaly use Movie Thumbnailer to generate a thumbnail index (http://moviethumbnail.sourceforge.net/). It is very fast, free, and can generate an index recursively on a directory. It can be scripted using a batch file like this one:

Movie Thumbnailer is a good screen capture, although is a command line program, has two graphical user interfaces (GUI) that make the program easier to use and can be used as a portable app.
Comand line program: http://moviethumbnail.sourceforge.net Graphical user interfaces (put in the same folder than command line program): http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mov...Batch.v0.1.exe (I prefer this) http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mov...nFront0.44.zip (more customizable) The program is multiplatform, allows batch mode (you can do the captures of all vids in a folder and subfolders) and can display the basic information of the files (name, duration, size, bitrate) and each videostream (codec, bitrate, resolution, fps) o audiostream (codec, bitrate, sampling).
