sub quirks
i have seen a few movies now where the subtitles render 0 as "3". numbers 50 and 700, for example, actually "53" and "733" in the SRT files. later on, 10 digit phone number given in dialogue is correct x/c for 0's swapped out for 3's throughout.
what is the logic in this? if a technical glitch, any theories WHY? worse yet, movie clear history renders the word OK as "18-535" every time it comes up!! seriously. multiple times throughout the film. what thu...?! |

Are you seeing sub flubs on professionaly produced movies (dvd, BR)? If so, pepo got no theories. On vids made by regular folks, it may be becuz they are using a font on their subtitle maker ap that is not recognized correctly by their video output device. Sometimes this happens with streaming video, it looks good when streaming but they use specific fonts that arent recognized by most video output so it comes out crazy when d/l'd. Just a guess... but its a guess by pepo so that counts more! .

the 0->3 i've noticed on a number of files, most recently godfather 3 which i DLed HERE: http://veterperementour.ru/showthread.php?p=22747440
the k2s link. so that's blueray, no? the "18-535" was on clear history. i no longer have the file, but i suspect it was either "Clear History (2013) 720p BrRip x264 - YIFY" [754.88M] or "Clear History (2013) 720p BluRay - 700MB - ShAaNiG" [700.24M]. in both cases, the internal/bundled subs which came with the file. had it been an aftermarket copy DLed from opensubs, i think the typos would google up on various "script" sites. which they don't. playing on VLC, btw. |

it shouldnt happen on the actual BluRay or DVD disc but anything can go wrong once someone rips it & then uploads it. If the ripper's software doesn't support the font used on the original disc then you can get mistakes. pepo wouldnt doubt that some manufacturers use very specific fonts that could cause problems if ripped, d/l'd or uploaded to hamper piracy.
if this is the case then it is something that has to be fixed by the ripper & i dont think there's much that the downloader can do to fix it other than to manually correct the .srt or .sub file itself. This is only a possible explanation, unfortunately not a solution. Sorry. i hope someone smarter than pepo (is that possible?) can provide a better answer & hopefully a solution. .
