I've heard that before. Also, with The Kinks,Steppenwolf,Big Brother..others that don't come to mind right now. They all had that guitar work, but lacked the heavy "crunch" & power, that defines metal to me. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, are widely accepted as the "Big 3" of early metal, and I'm good with that. Vocals were pretty lame, but it was nice to hear the crowd knew the lyrics. They were nice to look at too. |

My favorite track from the much maligned and hated "St. Anger." I find the lyrics to this so empowering and I have to say I really, really like this album.

First time I heard them was back in 1983 ... it was in the Jurassic era ! LOL
Metallica - Whiplash Dave Mustaine had already been replaced by Kirk Hammett .............................. ... and Lana Del Rey was also there playing her V-guitar too ! (just joking)

Certainly the best of the time. I heard that riff before most. Kirk Hammett lived on the street behind me throughout high school, and blasted the neighborhood. He was in most of my classes in jr. and high school. I hung out with him for awhile one year in summer school. We never hit it off because he was a better student, and into guitars instead of drugs/motor cycles/cars. I remember we though he was nuts for paying thousands of $ for a Stratocaster. Here's another one of the better top speed/thrash tunes from the day. Savatage - Washed Out |
