A belated RIP to Jack Veneno, who passed away on April 6th at the age of 78 from pancreatic cancer:

For the uninformed, Veneno was a hero in his home country of the Dominican Republic, and supposedly won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship from Ric Flair in 1982 or 1983 (different dates have been thrown around for years; I'm going with January 1983, since in the month of January, he did title-losing jobs for Victor Jovica, Carlos Colon, and supposedly, Veneno - all were disputed, and never recognized, for various reasons). When they wrestled (supposedly in their second encounter), Flair called an audible and had Veneno cover him, to avoid the rabid and passionate overflow audience from rioting.

A documentary was released on YouTube a few years ago, detailing the life of Veneno, with a part of it centering around the (supposed) title change, albeit with clearly doctored footage from the actual event.

The "title change", for obvious reasons, has never been recognized by the National Wrestling Alliance.

Veneno, after retiring form active competition in 2000, dabbled in politics. To this day, he remains a hero to his nation.

Impact's Rebellion PPV is looking to be the best PPV of the year with AEW Champion Kenny Omega vs Impact/TNA Champion Rich Swann in a title vs title match. They have been going all out for this and are bringing in ex-NXT announcer Mauro Ranallo to call this match. They also have him doing voice overs for videos.

This is how you promote a match!

It's a shame Tony Khan doesn't know how to book, because he should be promoting the hell out of this on AEW Dynamite. He makes it look like he doesn't care if Kenny Omega loses the AEW title to Rich Swann. People are all says Omega is going to easily win it, but I say that's what they all want you to think Swann has no chance.

What I hope happens is one of two things 1.) Don Callis screws Omega or 2.) Ace Austin uses Option C to insert himself into the match to in both titles. Before anybody says adding Austin compromises the match, it what already done with the inclusion of AEW official Aubrey Edwards as the match referee.

As for why it's a good idea for Austin to be added to the match, it fits his heel character as X-Division champion. He knows he's the best young talent in wrestling and if he wins he'll be the youngest Impact and AEW champion at 23. Impact has been building him up perfectly making him look strong in main event matches with him always slightly coming up short for a year. This is his time. It's inevitable!

That historic match was no better than matches on Raw. Sorry Swann but clearly not cutting it in the big time against the likes of Omega. It was his chance and he flopped on his head. I get the feeling they rode out the comeback story and it's fizzled like Omega's pyro rigging.

Having just watched the first part of the Brian Pillman "Dark Side of the Ring" episode on the VICE website, it reminded me of my "meeting" Brian years ago...

First, regarding the episode, somebody who was interviewed for the episode is so full of shit, I have a headache from all the eyerolling... three guesses?

Anyway, the WCW had just finished a show in my home town (Syracuse, NY) circa 1989, and of course, some of the wrestlers went out for drinks. While The Road Warriors and The Freebirds went to the SU bars, Tom Zenk and Brian went to a Ladies' Night at a dance club (where I went on Thursdays, as my roommate was the DJ... great way to meet chicks back in the day)... and yes, I was a mark back in the day...

While Zenk was a cool guy... very amiable and the life of the party, Pillman was just standing in the middle of the club, complete with a scowl of his face, scouting the place looking for women. I tried to introduce myself, but he blew me off totally. It was like he was living his gimmick...

Another brush with greatness gone amok.

So any incline of where Mr Bryan of the Danielson is going? Is he going to eh e dubya with Samoan and Kurt Angle. Can't wait to see that match again in eh e dubya. Pretty sure Mark Henry is going there too. Things really hooting up in eh e dubya. Gotta fill that spot now Y2J hurt himself landing on soft mats.

If WWE were smart, Bryan would go to NXT instead of Raw. Not sure it'd be enough to get me to start caring about NXT, but I think it would fit well on many levels.

Letting Bryan go and be a AEW/New Japan type guy like Moxley could end up being like a 'Fingerpoke of Doom' level mistake. I don't think they'd do it since I think his in-ring comeback was spurred on by the existence of AEW and making sure he didn't go there.

But who knows, maybe he makes a choice like Mox and FTR in that it's not about money it's about what he's doing. Although unlike those 3, he's been booked pretty good on the back end of the WWE run were it to end here.

I think Joe will go home to Impact, maybe using the 'forbidden door' to Dynamite to have a banger with Omega. But I think Impact will make the overpay to get Joe back.

The Jericho bump aftermath was bad, I think they maybe got their time estimate wrong and so they had to keep showing either him or the replay for too long. They really needed to show Jericho from above to not 'fully expose the magic' so to speak.

Ideally, I'd keep him off TV for a while. Maybe cut a vignette on MJF every so often talking his return. MJF/Sammy happens at Double or Nothing and then the big money match of MJF/Jericho happening late summer/fall. I think it's obvious that Jericho is going to put MJF over in a singles match eventually, it's just a matter of when.
