Avidemux
Every time I try to use avidemux, it tells me there's an update available dated March 21, 2019 which I've long since already downloaded. Also lately any file I try to trim the beginning that I've marked is not saved in the correct beginning, sometimes the ending will be saved correctly, sometimes not. Any advice would be helpful. If this is the best tool for editing clips, maybe someone can provide a link as I don't know if i should trust the link given in the software. If anyone could recommend better free software for editing please let me know.

The 'stable' version of AVD are usually not so. Uninstall your existing installation since it's buggered.

When you save a clip with Avidemux using "Copy" in the Video and Audio drop down lists on the left, Avidemux will make the begining and end of the clip at a keyframe. If you set the in and out points on a frame that is not a keyframe, Avidemux will save the clip at the nearest keyframe.
Videos will have keyframes spaced differently depending on how the encoder that was used to create them were set up. In lossless video every frame is a keyframe, but the files are huge. Compressed video has fewer keyframes to reduce the size of the final video. The more compressed the fewer the keyframes. The only way to get your clips to start and finish at the exact position you want is to re-encode the clip specifying the encoding formats in the drop down boxes on the left. You will however lose some quality in the re-encoding process. |
