firefox profile missing/corrupted
suddenly i'm getting the above message when i try to open FF. not on the heels of a crash or reinstall or anything...literally just out of the blue.
tried doing an update, still same. so i uninstalled it -- even deleting straggling folder it had been in -- and installed latest version from scratch. only to find...STILL the same message!! what thu...?! really expected fresh install would have fixed this. what now? 62.0.3 (64-bit), fwiw. win7 HP. posting now via IE/chrome. |

My guess that when you uninstalled Firefox you didn't delete the Firefox profile and data folders. If they were corrupt before you uninstalled they may be affecting the new installation. They will stay on your computer if you uninstall through Window's Add Remove Programs. I'd suggest you uninstall again and restart your machine. Then delete all of the Mozilla data and profile folders as follows:
1. Click the Start button and type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and hit enter. 2. That should open the Mozilla folder in your User AppData folder. 3. Delete the Mozilla folder along with all subfolders. Then reinstall Firefox again and see if that sorts it out. Good luck. |

i know exactly what the problem is. when you upgraded to chrome 64 it made a different directory an the profile is in there
goto command prompt and run as administrator then paste in this command mklink /j C:\Users\Your-User-Name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\ "C:\Users\Your-User_name\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome Beta\" this forces the computer to ting the crome profiles etc are in the right directory Quote:

i do have chrome but i don't use it much and i can't recall upgrading or even updating it in over a year. but i'll investigate.
a scaled-down version of Pad's suggestion actually did the trick. did none of the uninstall/restart/reinstall stuff; FF started working again as soon as i DELETED the folder in question. sorry i didn't report back faster! fix was so quick, i kinda forgot about it! |
