I have been using the free version of screen cast o matic but the 15 minutes tends to be more of a hastle then anything. Are there any free ones out there that let you record as long as you like and dont make the file size huge by the time you are done?

Most of screen capturing programs are distributed under shareware license, so if you are looking for something freeware, you don't really have many options...in this situation, I would recommend you to take a look at that open source project:

hi i use, Free Screen to Video - Screen Capture & Screen Recorder

it also does audio and diff record formats with a easy interface and heaps of good options like record picture with sound or no sound etc, this is a fully working program with all features available to use, some recordings don't playback properly in Media Player Classic but should playback in most players depending on recorded format.
i record in best quality or better then convert to diff format for a smaller file size.

What you want is a program called "Replay Video Capture 7" I use it all of the time to capture Live Streaming from Sites that do not allow Video DownLoading. It is easy to use.
