24 February 2017 Heterosexual women have fewer orgasms than men or lesbian or bisexual women, a study suggests. The findings came from a study of 52,600 people in the US, exploring the "orgasm gap" between the genders and different sexual orientations. The report in Archives of Sexual Behaviour revealed a "variety of behaviours couples can try to increase orgasm frequency". These include oral sex and manual stimulation. The study, by Indiana University, Chapman University and Claremont Graduate University, showed the proportion of people who usually orgasmed was: 65% of heterosexual women 66% of bisexual women 86% of lesbian women 88% of bisexual men 89% of gay men 95% of heterosexual men The research team said: "The findings, however, indicate that this orgasm gap can be reduced. "The fact that lesbian women orgasmed more often than heterosexual women indicates that many heterosexual women could experience higher rates of orgasm." Other behaviours Few heterosexual women climaxed through penetrative sex alone, the report said. The study showed that "of particular importance was incorporating oral sex along with other activities during a sexual encounter". There was a clear pattern between more oral sex and more orgasms in heterosexual women, lesbian women, bisexual women, gay men and bisexual men. Only in straight men was no link detected. Other behaviours linked to greater orgasms in women were: Asking for what they wanted in bed Praising their partner for something they did in bed Calling or emailing to tease about doing something sexual Wearing sexy lingerie Trying new sexual positions Anal stimulation Talking about or acting out sexual fantasies Engaging in sexy talk and expressions of love during sex The report authors said there were both social and evolutionary ideas around why men and women have different rates of orgasm. For example a stigma against women expressing sexual desire hampering sexual discovery and a belief in some men that most women orgasm from penetrative sex. And from an evolutionary perspective they suggested the male and female orgasms served different purposes which could also have an effect. This male orgasm is all about ejaculation to ensure reproduction while in women it "facilitates bonding with a long-term romantic partner", the report said. |

![]() Does "going to go out on a limb" mean "I have absolutely no evidence to back my claims"? In this case the claim that " Lesbian & Bisexual women are purely motivated by sexual desire".

I also know heterosexual women who most definitely are not in their relationships for "money", "more money." I hope this thread does not go pearshaped. Personal opinion from talking to people: lesbian women tend to have a better idea how to please a woman, gay men tend to have a better idea how to please another man. Some people in heterosexual relationships have worked out how to best please a member of the opposite sex.

![]() I think what he's meaning is that people in the LGBTQ self identity as a sexual orientation, while straight women (and men) don't.
How can you be a lesbian or bi without knowing about sexual attraction? But you can be straight and not. It is a generalisation, and not really an insulting one. I personally prefer my partners to be experienced, and with straight women there is the chance that they have never had sex or even watched porn. In all the studies done straight people have the least amount, on average, sexual partners. Which is understandable, as being able to have relations with the same sex would give more opportunities. That's just how society is. |

![]() I doubt that these studies controlled for the differences in demographics--i.e. there are far many more heterosexual and bi sexual women than there are gay women. Second, in lesbian relationships there are more women engaging sexual contact. It suffices to say that at least one will orgasm. Third, the practices of lesbians focus almost entirely on stimulating the clitoris--e.g. cunnilingus, "scissoring," etc. In my experience, at least, I know penetrating her is not enough to make her orgasm. There's a lot of foreplay involved. Any man who has sex frequently knows that making her nut is the way to lock her down.

![]() Because too many guys just don't care about it, and the ones stating they are the best usually care even less and don't even see the woman didn't had an orgasm

![]() There are some scientists who'd say a woman's clitoris is like a man's nipples: simply an evolutionary afterthought. Just as men have nipples not for any practical purpose, but only because women require nipples for breastfeeding babies, so women have a clitoris (and the orgasms it produces) not for any specific purpose, but just because men have to have a penis (and orgasms). There's really no biological need for women even to have a clitoris; all that's essential is a vagina, a uterus, and a basic libido. With males, on the other hand, it's absolutely essential to have a penis and orgasms, or else the species would quickly die out. From an evolutionary point of view, a clitoris remains a vestigial nub and leftover - just the germ of a penis that never got the testosterone-fueled instructions to grow. Men and women, after all, always start out as the same undifferentiated mass of stem cells, which gradually transform into males or females depending on whether a y chromosome is present. It's hardly surprising, then, that most straight human females have fewer orgasms than males (or lesbians who are more masculine, often with higher testosterone levels), especially since most female mammals rarely orgasm, while the male almost always does. Natural selection is always trying to cut corners and save energy, and females retaining a vestigial penis and infrequently orgasming is just one way nature strives for efficiency.
