I'm surprised no one has mentioned Yakuza or gang run porn studios. Who knows if all of it is legal? Plus there are stricter regulations for the female talent in Japan vs in the US and other countries. You will see Melody Marks go back and forth between JAV and American scenes but you'll never see that with JAV talent. It sucks.

Rule #1 for JAV. It's not made for a gaijin (foreign) audience. It's been that way for the 35+ years I've been watching it.

The Japanese consumer likes whining from the girls. They also like misogynistic treatment of JAV actresses and extreme themes. They don't like western male actors in JAV but there is a sub-genre of black male actors which is a relatively recent development.

The only (Caucasian) western male actor I've ever seen in a proper censored JAV was old Steve Holmes. Though I have seen a few others, usually White Euro Trash in some of the uncensored pseudo-JAV, the kind mainly made for the Western market like Kin8tengoku. As for the black male actors they used to fly the idols out to LA to get banged out by Sean Michaels and company and I believe they even flew him out to Tokyo a couple of times. The AV Companies either can't afford to or can't be bothered to do this anymore so now they usually rely on Black foreigners from Africa or other parts West who are already living in Japan.
