I hope your Flames can sign Matthew before training camp. He's a key player, whose career is in an upswing. But I think there's a flaw in the system. The RFA young stars are stuck in the mud. There's no progress in the negotiations. We're in August and training camp is approaching fast. Yet these big names (Rantanen, Point, Laine etc.) are without a contract. I guess we will see the William Nylander situation again with numerous players. Which is not good for the guys, the teams and especially for the fans. The casual viewers wants to see offense, which these lads can provide on a daily basis.
By the way I don't envy the recently bought out guys, like Stone and Shattenkirk. Almost every team has spent every dollar on new players in the first couple of days in free agency. Now the rosters are set and it won't be easy to find new clubs for these men. If the buyout happens much earlier in the offseason, they have more time to look around on the market. Currently their options are very limited. The business side of hockey is pretty tough!
