Be careful installing the Win 10 Update released 06/08/2021
 

Perhaps it's just me, but I rather stupidly just let me PC install the update.

Initially it kept failing to install, them Windows gave up and said "Couldn't complete the updates. Undoing changes."

I know have a PC with which I can't:

Log in using a PIN.

Can't get on to the internet - troubleshooter says there's nothing wrong.

Can't open anything in MS Office.

Lord alone knows what else.

I'll feed back if I have more information

Mine is updating now, Guess I'll see what happens in a few minutes.

Edit: installed all the updates available today, took a little while then required a restart, so far everything seems to be ok.

Just a longshot, but do you have any Conexant audio drivers? If so, using MS's default drivers during installation, then reinstalling might be the ticket.

Might be worth Googling to see if there are any driver-related issues with the install... this is why I haven't installed, so far... don't want to be the sacrificial Guinea Pig.

I'll boot the PC up later and take a look, I eventually managed to uninstall all of the recent updates, but that's made no difference.

I had to readjust all my display settings. The brightness & contract, etc. were all wrong and both pictures and videos looked really compressed. The screen resolution was displaying as 1280x720 but still claiming it was 3840x2160. I first noticed that my taskbar and icons were huge, it was like I went back in time 25 years when they only had low resolution monitors.

I wish Windows could find a way to leave your settings alone when updating. I believe the reason for the problems are that they no longer do a patch to fix a problem, instead they re-write a section of the operating system and replace it. So what you're getting with an update is a new OS rather than a band-aid. Just because it's still called Windows 10 doesn't mean it's the same OS you first purchased. Over time it will slowly evolve into a Frankenstein monster, it's even possible that one day an update will prevent your old printer from working.

I Can't open anything:
Pictures, videos, nothing they all come up with "File System Error (- 2147219196)"

Which at least gives me something to go on as that message is on several sites with possible solutions.

I was going to do a System Restore, but Windows says I haven't got one within 10 days.


Personal opinion: this place looks flaming horrible on a iPad.

I hate to say this i think its your computer, i updated windows 10 this past tuesday with no issues, although i did notice they took awhile, but nothing crashed or didnt open,
ive had problems ever since i got windows 10, never wanted it, only have it because i HAD TOO stop using windows 7, ive had freezes, black screens, crashes, unnecessary system updates, and lets not forget the FORCED every tuesday update of the month, dont get me wrong, on windows 7 i had to do that to, patch tuesday, but i also had the option to wait, hide updates for a month or simply skip them. The update proccess in windows 10 is horrific, like on the tuesday if the update is at 2pm, you NEED to get it, theirs no option to pause or wait unless you want everything to crash. Anyways im done venting,
Im using windows 10 home if that makes a difference, and thank god, it was free.

Thanks for the tip, how comfortable we were all of us with our beloved w7 and microsoft bring us this OS trash wich only consumes resources unnecessarily, spies on its users and ruins their files with every update.

With W7 I never had any problem but since I installed the new microsoft OS rare is the day that one thing or another doesn't fail. It has already happened to me twice that after installing an update I couldn't start the computer and I had to reinstall everything, losing all my files. Not to mention all the bloatware and junk that comes with it when you do a new fresh install.

Do you know if there is a way to install the latest updates without installing that "news and interest" trash? I know there are several ways to hide it from taskbar but what I'm looking for is to avoid installing it. I'm sick of filling my computer with unnecessary apps like Edge, Onedrive, etc... that I don't use, and all they do is fill up disk space and consume resources stupidly.

Thank you bro, but this seems to be a solution to "hide it" once it's installed. I am looking for a way to avoid installing it, while I apply the update.:)
